HTC Shift gets a price: $1500 on Dynamism

The Shift to be sold by Dynamism for $1500. That is right on with what we've heard so far for prices of this device. Since Hugo put his video online the other day of the Shift, it has garnered a ton of attention. Check out Dynamism for more info.

The UMPC field is becoming a little bit like modern politics: there is a race to the center. Traditional big notebook makers like ASUS and Samsung have been releasing small and impressive UMPCs. As they try to shrink their PCs, phone makers have been trying to bulk up and add more power to their phones (especially Windows Mobile devices). Nobody has pushed smart phone functionality farther and harder than Taiwan's HTC. HTC recently released the HTC Advantage, which is the most capable Windows Mobile device to date. Now, HTC has gone all the way to full-fledged UMPC.

The HTC Shift ships with Windows Vista Business and has enough power to run Vista's Aero interface. It has a slide-and-tilt 7-inch wide aspect ratio touchscreen that slides to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. As you would expect from HTC, broadband wireless is integrated -- including 3G, HSDPA, and quad-band GSM. Other wireless connectivity includes WiFi and Bluetooth.

This UMPC is powered by an Intel A110 CPU and 30GB hard drive. The integrated camera is an asset for video Skype on the move.
As with all our PCs, the HTC Shift includes the Dynamism Rescue Service warranty and unlimited toll-free tech support. Reserve one now four earliest delivery.

That's less than I thought it would be. I expected it to be $2000. Too bad our work software only runs on xp pro. Doubly too bad my work bought me a dell latitude just now. Triply too bad that Dell can't deliver said latitude b/c of a "shortage of lcd screens."

I wonder if you can get it cheaper without Windows installed. Ubuntu 7.10 is going to have a lot of Mobile computing support.
