Mobipocket site still down

Mobipocket site has been down since Wednesday, August 15. For those who use the site for reading and purchasing ebooks, this outage may have hit you hard, leaving you stranded bookless.

From Mobipocket:mobipocket

NOTICE: A major problem occurred with the Mobipocket DRM server at about 6:30 PM Eastern Time, Wednesday, August 15. Engineers at Mobipocket.com have informed us that they hope to be back online sometime this weekend, August 18 or 19. We have switched, where possible, all Secure Mobipocket files purchased during the downtime to an alternative DRM provider, Content Reserve. We have also taken all titles that could not be switched offline in Mobipocket format until the problem is resolved.

So, at this point in time, any Secure Mobipocket title you see onsale can be downloaded immediately. Titles that cannot be downloaded immediately have been temporarily taken offsale in the Secure Mobipocket format.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and we will post a new message when the problem is resolved.

Fictionwise has secure mobipocket ebooks (as well as Adobe reader, MS Reader, and Palm reader).

Well thankyou, I've contacted them a couple of times this week, and getting no response, that makes me feel a bit better to know that they're down, but I have still been able to buy things through the site? So it's weird!

Good to hear you can still purchase through Mobipocket even though the site is down. I use Fictionwise, mainly because I already had an account with them back when I used MS reader. They have some good deals (specials). I read 3-5 books a week, at times, so I need the specials ;)

Anybody knows where I can download the Smartphone version of the reader?

I switched from an Axim to a HTC S621 last week, and I need my reading!

Thank you

August 24th and still nothing! 9 Days.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Having spent a considerable amount of money on their books etc, I think it would only be proper for them to make some kind of statement on progress on resolving this problem.

Or, have they closed down permanently?

Today is the 24th, so we shall see.....

I agree. They should have had some information on their site, other than "down for maintenance.....sorry for the inconvenience"

An explanation, an update....anything...... would have been better....

I, too, have spent a considerable amount of money on ebooks... and am NOT pleased

I will pass along any news I hear though
