iPhone Hacking Kit, the next generation

inst And Steve Jobs did not want to have 3rd party developers working on the iPhone!  Well, truth be told, it is not stopping them and thanks to the work of some incredibly talented hackers from around the world, they have opened up the iPhone using their expertise to create very quickly an entire iPhone development system, and then use it to create a number of applications.

For those of you that did get an iPhone, there has been even more good news because these guys have opened it up just a bit more to allow you the ability to do a little hacking by creating "an automatic software update and installation system that is far cooler than any iTunes-based scheme that might come along."  The iPhone Hacking Kit, the next generation is pretty cool walk through of what these hacks can do and how to do them.  Hey, you might well be able to add a little of your own expertise to give it just that little extra!

Even if you don't have an iPhone, this is a pretty good read so check it out over here at iPhone Central

It was just a matter of time. How fun! Originally, Apple lost out to Windows in part b/c of windows' open architecture. Now they're making the same mistake.

As quickly as they have whipped up iPhone homebrew, I wonder how long after the iPod Touch is out, will they have homebrew? I wonder how much commonality there is between them.... they may be architectually the same.
