SoftMaker has released a free beta of SoftMaker Office 2008 for Windows. This product isn't for the Windows Mobile OS (yet), but SoftMaker typically releases the Windows version first, then the Windows Mobile version.
The 2008 edition improves upon the familiar PlanMaker spreadsheet program. SoftMaker also claims that their TextMaker word processing program has been 'significantly overhauled'. Personally I'm hoping this includes some memory fixes from their TextMaker 2006 edition...
SoftMaker Office 2008 also includes two new programs. One is Presentations 2008, which is 'fully compatible with Microsoft PowerPoint'. The other is BasicMaker 2008, which is compatible with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). The 2008 edition looks very promising, and you can find out more details on the SoftMaker website.
How does this compare to StarOffice and OpenOffice.. and possibly the free web based ones by Google

The biggest difference is that SoftMaker Office is cross-platform. TextMaker is really the only usable word processor to use on the Windows Mobile platform, as the built in Pocket Word isn't very good. This program alone makes a strong case for the Pocket PC platform to be used as a laptop replacement, IMHO.
Currently TextMaker is on version 2006 for Windows Mobile, but the Windows Beta suggests that 2008 should be out soon.
Watch out Microsoft, and more importantly watch out Microsoft when this hits wm. Even though MS improved word in wm5/6 it will not stand up to the Softmaker version.

TextMaker on the ppc is a brilliant program. It is the reason I'm using SoftMaker products on my windows desktop, too. And it is great to see the addition of the presentation software in the new package.
Once you use Textmaker and Planmaker on the ppc, you can't use pocket excel and pocket word anymore. They have all the formatting, formulas and hardcore desktop stuff you want on the pocket pc. Plus, the desktop versions are fully compatible with the MS versions. Giddyup.
