I finished my review of the Qwest HTC Mogul Windows Mobile phone. My only previous experience with any type of a smartphone was using a Palm Treo 680. The Palm OS was okay, but after a few months I switched back to carrying a cell phone for calls and my Dell x51v with WM5 for everything else. It always seemed to me that I had to choose between a good PDA with a poor cell phone or a poor PDA with a good cell phone. When I was offered the chance to review a current generation Windows Mobile device I jumped at the chance. Could the Mogul convince me to jump on the converged device bandwagon? Find out here.
I'm with you on the Verizon quandary. Great coverage, but archaic PDA phones.

Very nice review of the Mogul. I got mine back in end of August. Never thought I would one day join the convergence crowd but the Mogul was just way too nice for me not to give in. All the CONS I agree with (except pocketability but then i dont really pocket mine to give an opinion).
1) 64MB RAM - There's MUCH complaints about the RAM from many people. I'm coming from x30Mid straight to a Mogul. Because I was running around 32MB Ram with my x30, I didnt really have too much issues with the Mogul speed. So I didnt really have a need to complain about it. But my x30 is at least 3 year old in technology...so it really isnt a good thing that the Mogul is running about the same RAM as my x30. :)
2) Reset - I've read a lot of complaints about the resetting and I tend to agree with them. I feel that I've been resetting my Mogul on average 2-3 times a day every day for a few weeks. This is NOT a good sign. BUT, my Mogul has finally stabilized and now will probably only go through a reset about once a week at most.
3) Backlight - The backlight on the Mogul is BRIGHT :) I keep it at between 10-20% depending on what I am doing. I'm doing it NOT because I want to save battery but because it really is too bright for me.
4) Speakerphone - Speaker volume I feel its a bit low even when I turn it up to the highest. But its still workable indoors. Although I would not suggest trying to use the speakerphone outdoors. You will be severely disappointed.
5) Call Quality - My call is crisp and clear depending on where I am. But basically if I am indoors with little noise then sound is very good. On the flip side if I am outdoors or in a very noisy environment, then there's a lot of static for the person I am calling.
6) Camera - Honestly I didnt really test the camera feature too much. I have yet to figure out much on how to take pix. Although the Sprint sell rep that I spoke showed me the rapid picture taking function. (Dont ask me how cause I still dont know)
7) Buttons - HTC went OVERKILL on the buttons. There's so many buttons its not even funny. But I like that they did something like this. Makes it easier to launch programs. The only problem is that the buttons aren't situated very well. I sometimes press the camera or the power button by accident and I definitely don't have meaty fingers. Also I love that they had a jog dial. I've had a jog dial on my pda for the past 5 years and have really gotten used to it.
8) Screen Size - I was honestly thinking whether to buy the Mogul or not because of its small screen size. I'm very used to the x30 screen and the small screen is a bit concerning. I definitely know that in the future when I encode movies, not to include subtitles cause I cant see it at all.
9) Accessory - My Mogul is from Sprint and not Qwest. The accessories are a little different. I got a 512MB microSD card instead of a charging cradle. I definitely would have prefer having a cradle to the microSD card.
10) Storage - Right now its been proven that the Mogul will support up to a 6gb microSDHC card. This is definitely a high plus for me. I'm waiting for pricing to drop and then buying the 6gb card :)
11) Stylus - I dont like how the stylus holder is at the bottom. I keep worrying that I havent fully pushed it in. Also the extending stylus is not something that I am a big fan of but its still workable. Although I think if people have big or meaty hands it wont work out too well for them.
12) Keyboard - The sliding mechanism definitely feels good. Although its too good and tempting to play with. But I dont want to play with it too often for fear of it breaking and not working on me. The keyboard has a nice feel to it and typing is really easy once you get used to it.
Btw...I honestly feel the VZW one is VERY VERY VERY ugly :)
