Fujitsu LifeBook U810, A PC Magazine Review

Cisco Cheng has a pretty good review up on the Fujitsu LifeBook 810 that you will enjoy looking at.  This very small 1.5 pound device has a lot of features, good functionality and a killer price of $999.  The price alone is well worth giving this UMPC a serious look.

So what did Cisco have to say?  Well, here is just a  piece of his article:

From a design standpoint, the 1.5-pound U810 will draw oohs and ahhs when seen by itself, but less so when compared with the OQO model 02 or the Sony UX180P.

The device looks like a miniature laptop, similar to the FlipStart in that it's a clamshell with a lid that protects the screen and the little keyboard. The OQO and Sony UX, on the other hand, have screens that slide upward, like a T-Mobile SideKick 3. The U810 adds one more feature to its repertoire: The screen can rotate 180 degrees, essentially making it a convertible tablet. At 5.6 inches, it has by far the largest screen of the devices I mention here, though reading text on it is still a recipe for eyestrain.

This is one of the best, most useful and reasonably priced UMPC's (or is the) I have seen recently. It seems to have very nice screen with res of 1024x600, and with a docking station you can hook it up to a monitor.

If I owned one, I would probably complain about the thick border around the screen, which occupies why too much monitor space and makes it look like one of those cheap DVD players. There is no firewire or ethernet on this, so you are pretty much stuch with WiFi, which may hog the battery pretty quickly. 40 GB is a bit restrictive for this, when you can get a personal mp3 player with much larger drives nowadays.

Sounds like 800MHz Intel A110 is just about right, since it is paired with 1GB DDR2 RAM.

Great little device, wouldn't mind carrying around.

Hi CTitanic,
I've been reading your helpful thought for a long while, thanks.
My Axim x50v broke about 4 months ago, and I can't find a replacement, I was spoiled by the nice big screen.
I mainly use as a PDA/eBook reader, but every additional feature is a bonus.
This looked like the winning ticket, though a thousand bucks......WOW,........ that's way more than 200-400.
Have you published a review anywhere that's as thorough as your usual or can you give me your thoughts?
thanks in advance, Hal
