The Helium Digital Bluetooth Stereo Headset & Transmitter

hd1 I love devices!  It has almost become an obsessive passion, but I just love the technology.  Years ago, people would always say: "If it has buttons, Jack will get it".  I suppose that was true and certainly today, there are buttons on the devices we all love.  But as slick as a device is, it often is the peripheral device that brings out the full enhancement of what you are using.

An example is a portable DVD player I have.  It is great, works well, has real great sound for a small device and has been an enjoyable device to have but often, I have to use a headset with it either because I am on a plane or in the same room as my wife when she is watching a TV program.  In the past, I would use a headset that was wired which was great sound but very limiting in being able to move around.  If I wanted to get up to get a drink, I had to pause the movie, remove the headset, get my drink and then go through the process of putting it back on etc etc etc.  It was OK, but it was a pain.

So the question is: "how do you improve the experience?"  If only the device you were using were Bluetooth then you would have the ability to move around effortlessly and still hear sound from your device.  Helium Digital had the answer.  Make a lightweight, durable quality headset that can pair with Bluetooth devices and as a bonus, include a transmitter so you can continue to enjoy that sound on devices that have a standard (3.5mm) headset jack.

device1 The Headphones are incredibly light, weighing only 50 grams, and the way they feel when you are wearing them is surprisingly comfortable. You almost can forget that they are on.  I really like the behind the neck design because of the greater flexibility you get as you move around and the ability to comfortably wear a hat if you want.  The design is such that with a simple touch on the right ear piece, you can adjust the volume and change the next or previous track that is playing.  What is particularly cool is a very discreet microphone that will allow for handsfree communication with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone.

So what does that mean?  If you are listening to some great music and a call comes in, you click the button on the side of the headset, the music will pause, you take your call and as soon as it is completed the music resumes ... automatically!  It works well as you will see in the second video.

How does the transmitter work?  I've used it on two devices and found it to be easy to use and has provided excellent transmission of sound.  Initial pairing between the headset and transmitter was instantaneous (see video #1) and once inserted in the device of choice, the sound came clearly through the headset.  The transmitter included in the HDBT-750, is smaller and will allow a Bluetooth connection to be made with any device with a 3.5mm jack. Both the headset and the transmitter have rechargeable lithium ion batteries and should give you 6 -7 hours of listening pleasure.  My experience has been slightly more than the rated time which made me very happy as I watched several  episodes of "24" in a row.

Features of the HDBT-750 are as follows;

  • Bluetooth® V2.0
  • AVRCP & A2DP Bluetooth® Profile Support
  • Automatic Music/ Phone switching
  • Headphone Volume adjustment
  • Ultra Lightweight- Only 50 grams
  • Built In Echo Elimination & Noise Suppression
  • Rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery - 6.5 hours Battery Life
  • Working distance approximately 15 meters

Here is my initial look at the Helium Digital Bluetooth Stereo Headset .  I start with the reason why I would want a headset with a transmitter, show the package and its contents and give it a try using a portable DVD player.  The entire process was simple and the results were very positive.

The ability to use the headset with an alternative media player was important to me but it was also important to see how well it would perform with a Pocket PC phone.  In the second video you can see how easily I was able to pair the Helium Digital headphones with the HTC Touch and you will see my first experience using the headset to make and receive a call.  The process was simple and again the quality of the sound was excellent.

I was particularly pleased with the flawless interaction of the headset with the phone while listening to music and receiving a call.  The music paused, I was able to chat with my wife and when the call ended the music resumed.  It was a good experience and one that I am sure I will repeat many times.

Conclusion:

If you are looking for a good quality headset that will reproduce sound at a high level and at the same time have a device that you can simultaneously use with your phone, this is device deserves serious consideration.
