Quit Jammin' Me

In the words of the bard Tom Petty;

You're jammin' me, You're jammin' me
Quit jammin' me

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 2 - One afternoon in early September, an architect boarded his commuter train and became a cellphone vigilante. He sat down next to a 20-something woman who he said was "blabbing away" into her phone.

"She was using the word 'like' all the time. She sounded like a Valley Girl," said the architect, Andrew, who declined to give his last name because what he did next was illegal.

Andrew reached into his shirt pocket and pushed a button on a black device the size of a cigarette pack. It sent out a powerful radio signal that cut off the chatterer's cellphone transmission - and any others in a 30-foot radius.

"She kept talking into her phone for about 30 seconds before she realized there was no one listening on the other end," he said. His reaction when he first discovered he could wield such power? "Oh, holy moly! Deliverance."

The eternal conflict has risen again... the inconsiderate vs. the overly annoyed.  The idea of cell phone jamming isn't new, but is illegal, regardless of how appropriate it might be in some cases.

I imagine that if FCC is running an active scan within your proximity when you activate it they could triangulate on your location but who really knows

What's more annoying than people blabbing on their cell phones is when they blab on their walkie talkie cell phones. Then you get the whole conversation!

hackaday

they recently featured one of them on hackaday

triangulation on a signal that weak would be pretty hard, they have to be almost on top of you to even notice it was activated.

movie theaters should have them installed, and courtrooms etc, anywhere ya arent supposed to turn the bloody things on. Hospitals?

anyway, if someone is being annoying, Ive found that dropping your guts (farting) next to them gets silence too.

once, on a train, there was a guy in a buisness suit, just standing there, then he looks at me and says "hello"
not wanting to be rude i said hello back
"Im on the train" he says, at this point i think i have a well dressed retard to deal with "good on ya mate, good work" i say to him
then he turns slightly and i notice the bluetooth earset . . .
