When Black Friday Comes...

"When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it 'til
I satisfy my soul"

Steely Dan

blackFriday

Are you soooo excited for Black Friday?  Whatchagonnaget?  What stores you hitting?  Wait a sec, are you actually going to brick and mortar stores to shop?  You might want to bring some armor and travel in groups.  Why groups?  According to Dory Devlin at Yahoo!, "If you're going after one particular item, split up, fan out, and see who finds it first and at the best price."

The smart money, however, is on web shopping.  Check out all the Black Friday websites such as Black Friday AdsThe Black Friday, http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/, Dealnews and Bargainist.

Figure out what you want before you shop.  Don't get suckered into bait and switch deals, like the Best Buy deal offering a Toshiba A135 laptop and printer combo for $229.  Supposedly each store has a minimum of 20 available, but if you don't sleep on the sidewalk overnight, you're probably not going to score one, which means you may be tempted to get the next best thing, which will cost alot more and still not have decent performance.  And that's what companies like Best Buy count on.

Buying gifts is one thing, but if you are truly looking for deals wait until the day after Christmas.  The prices will be even better!  Or if you're as smart as my wife, you will have scoped out great deals over the last couple of months and already be done with the shopping.

Hi
Please forgive my ignorance from this side of the pond, but what is Black Friday?
I guess it's something to do with the US Thanksgiving holiday?

Black Friday is the the first Friday after Thanksgiving. It has become famous b/c all the Christmas Holiday sales begin on that day, and it is the biggest shopping day of the year. The stores get mobbed with people. Many sleep on the sidewalks in front of the stores in order to be first in line and get items on sale that are in limited supply.

RSaturn, time to buy your daughter a car so she doesn't have to wake you!

Black Friday is the first "official" shopping day of the Holiday Season. It is known for complete maniac behavior in the marketplace as millions of people get up early to catch pre-XMAS sales and whatnot. It's completely nuts.

As for myself I sleep in on that day. There ain't NOTHING worth going through the hell of Black Friday.

Ah, thank you. A bit like our "Boxing Day" sales on 26th December.

Steve's wife and I think alike. I'm almost done shopping. And the few things I have left to get are not exactly "hot" items

Hubby's Wii came today!!! Gotta love that online shopping!!

With all the shoppers the retailers are in the black, most other times of the year the big outlets are in the red.

Black Friday, the start of the Holiday shopping season. That's what the retailers wait for all year long.
