Latest Warning System Increases the Accuracy and Relevancy of Alerts for WeatherBug's Consumer and Professional Customers

WeatherBug, the leading provider of live, local weather information, announced today it has integrated the storm-based warnings format recently launched by the National Weather Service (NWS) into its consumer and professional product offerings. Available immediately, these more geographically specific warnings for time-sensitive alerts such as severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and flood warnings are tailored to only warn that portion of the population in the path of the storm.

Warnings issued by the NWS and disseminated by WeatherBug are now much more relevant and accurate since it is a much higher likelihood that people who receive the alerts will be affected by the impending weather. This is due to the fact that, on a nationalized basis, NWS' storm-based warnings feature a reduction in geographical area unnecessarily warned by about 70 percent.

Alert maps from WeatherBug now depict the storm-based alerts by mapping the specific area where threats are the highest and showing the warning as a polygon shape based on alert zones as opposed to the entire county filled with alerts. Additionally, storm-based warnings provided by text on WeatherBug's products will be able to reference local landmarks such as highways, shopping centers, and parks and will use directional delimiters to indicate county location.

mobile platforms through partnerships with major telecom carriers and
operators. Additionally, WeatherBug's professional products are used by
