Amazon Kindle- Comparison photos!

What NO BACKLIGHT on the Amazon Kindle??

Here were my options for ebook reading: (White and bright) Laptop, Dell Axim x51v and AT&T Tilt (all using free Mobipocket ebook reader software)

And now, adding the Amazon Kindle to the picture

Using the ebook reader software, the white and bright backlight is tiring on the eyes if you read for long periods of time. I have changed the settings and tried other setups. A black background with a light green lettering was a little better. And, screen size? Small is small is small... on the Axim and the Tilt.

The Kindle? Nice size screen and "the high-resolution display technology called electronic paper, provides a crisp black-and-white screen that resembles the appearance and readability of printed paper. "

Shortly after I took this photo yesterday, I had every intention of exploring the Kindle to see what it could do .....BUT I had (randomly) opened up Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" for the photo...... and I ended up sitting and reading for hours. The Kindle is lightweight and the screen really does look like a real book! I quickly forgot about the device and simply read! Before I knew it, the kids were arriving home from school, and since my Kindle is supposed to be wrapped and under the tree..... I had to hurry and hide it again!

Stay tuned..... I will add more thoughts later ...but right now.... I read!!!

I love the size of the screen! I really need a backlight, though, as I do most of my reading at night. I'll be awaiting your opinion after you've had a chance to use it a bit more extensively.

I am sure the price will come down some. I was willing to pay the price for the "latest" :)

I blame it on my Dad....we had the very first VCR that came out (weighed 35 pounds and cost a couple thousand dollars)....

and think back to the "original" costs of other electronics..... computers, dvd players, etc.....

Cheryl I have a clip on light I can try out with it.
