My Idea for Zune or any other Media Player

Media Players are progressing really nice already, but I have some ideas that I would love to see in the future.

Take any Media Player... Add the ability to stream Bluetooth Stereo audio. I know that I loved that ability in the Samsung P2. I think this is an option that alot of folks will enjoy. This isn't the main idea that I am making this post about though.

The big idea, which some may discount as silly, is to add voice recognition software to a Media Player. A lot of phones have voice dialers and Microsoft's Voice Command is an awesome package for Windows Mobile Phones.

Why not add something like Voice Command to a Zune, iPod, Zen, or any other player? Driving down the road you decide you want to jam out to some Prince. Just click a button somewhere on the player and speak. "PLAY Prince Purple Rain" and then the player starts it up.

What do you think? Would you like a feature like that?

Sadly, I've never had a great deal of success with voice recognition. There's always something that screws it up. It always seems to do the opposite of what I want, and it ends up being more frustrating than useful.

Spot-on about the bluetooth though. I think the ipod touch could easily be the best media player ever if it had that one feature...

I like this idea .... especially when I want to change a tune that's playing and I forgot to bring my glasses out to the backyard....

Bluetooth would be great if they ever made good quality BT headphones. As far as voice recognition goes, when I listen to my iPod in the car it is quite loud. I don't think VR would hear it. I'd rather see a company spend the money on more flash memory and memory slots.

I dunno, Chris - maybe I'm just backwards or something but I find that the PPC is just about all the media player [portable that is] I need. I don't care about voice recognition at all. The PPC as it presently exists really hit the sweet-spot with me. I even gave my Zune away and just got a bigger CF card for the HP so I could store all my albums there (with room to spare). PPC and headphones and I'm all set.

Obviously this is strictly from my particular viewpoint but the PPC as it is now is so darn close to being "perfect" for what I do now I simply can't imagine it getting "better enough" to grab my attention. It really rocks as-is!

the issue with media players are:
size and interface.

How big is it? storage/form factor
Now that we have 60TB in a PMP the size of a zippo lighter, how do we access/control all that data.

BT stereo and controls should be a given in anything over 1gb

Voice recognition would be helpful, they are making a big deal about the voice recognition system in the new Fords.

Encryption/security would be useful as well, to keep people from stealing these devices... a mandatory daily password or similar

extra features, like LED flashlights or clocks and alarms would make them more useful than just as a walkman... but less than a PDA.

eliminate the custom connectors... USB/MiniUSB is sufficient for charging and data access. Quit forcing people to buy 30 dollar charge cables and assorted docking adapters.
