Jason Langridge managed to get his hands on one of the i-mate Ultimate 8150 devices.
The device itself is average in size with it's official measurements at: 118.5mm x 60.5mm x 15.5mm.
The specifications are what really excite people about the new Ultimate range. The devices all come with an Intel Bulverde 520MHz Processor, 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM.
The screen itself on the 8150 is a 2.6" VGA (640x480) Touch screen and the device also provides an XGA Out capability (1024x768) meaning you can plug the device into a screen or projector really easily.
For connectivity the 8150 has Quad-Band GSM/EDGE and Tri-band support for UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 or 850/1700/2100. The 8150 also has support for WiFi 802.11b/g/e/i and Bluetooth® v2.0 + EDR.
The Camera is a 2.0 mega pixel camera and the device also has a forward facing camera for 3g calls.
With such a powerful device I was very pleased to see the 1530mAh battery on it!
After using the device a few weeks:
I love the power and functionality - the 2.6" VGA Screen is very nice indeed. There are a couple of things I find frustrating though:
1) The 8150 has the 12 key keyboard and while I do like a 12 key device - the keys on the 8150 aren't raised in anyway and it makes it really difficult to dial/text on the keyboard. Maybe the 8502 (which has a QWERTY keyboard) will be better for me personally.
2) The second thing I don't like is the fact that the XGA out won't allow you to display on the device and the screen at the same time. Now I know the VGA screen won't be able to display XGA however it'd be great to be able to drop the resolution on the output as an option and have the ability to see what you are doing on the device.
Having said all that if you are looking for a powerful device then the Ultimate 8150 might be the right device for you
