Users who received a free copy from either Aximsite or Handango will be offered an upgrade price of $16.95. Other users who purchased before September 1, 2007 may upgrade for the same price. The full cost of the program is $29.95.
Are you sure about the people who received the free copy having to pay for the upgrade? I just went to the Pocket Informant 8 web page (Welcome to WebIS.net - Pocket Informant 8) and was advised by WebIS that I was eligible for a free upgrade.

According to the forum in WebIS, Alex did make it clear that free copies from the various promotions have to pay for the upgrade.

Don't misunderstand me; what you say is what I would have expected. However, as a matter of historical fact, when I entered my email address on the WebIS Pocket Informant 8 Upgrade web page, it advised me that I was eligible for the upgrade for free. Thinking that the web page would correct itself if I selected the upgrade link, it went ahead and provided me with the Registration code for version 8. Maybe that's true only for me, but I doubt it.
Perhaps someone should advise Alex/WebIS that there is an error on their web page. I certainly don't want to cheat the developers of such a fine piece of software.

I sent an e-mail yesterday (1/9/2008) to WebIS to confirm this:

Handango and Aximsite gave away copies of Pocket Informant 2007 this last week before version 8 was announced. Will these users be able to upgrade their copies? If so, what will be the price to do so? I would like to put this information on the front page news for Aximsite.

No, those copies will require the paid upgrade price available on our site.

Yes, I also see that in the text of their website, but words aside, the historical fact is that when I upgraded directly from the WebIS website, I was given the upgrade for free. I sent you a private message on this a few days ago, but never received a reply.

I was trying to get upgrade from Webis site and after I put my e-mail in the text box it says no records in their database about me. I bought PI about year ago and recently got another free copy from aximsite and they still doesn't have my records.
Interesting, how I supposed to get an upgrade then for 19$, or I have to pay full price?
I was thinking to get PI 8 for my smartphone and keep PI 7 on my pocket PC. But...
try logging into the aximsite store... if you look at your past purchases you can get the link to upgrade at the $16 rate
