MWC: GestureTek Mobile is Overall Winner

Company wins prestigious award for popular gesture-controlled mobile gaming and navigation software
GestureTek Inc., world leader in computer vision control technology and provider of state-of-the-art gesture- based interactive solutions for over twenty years, today announced that the company's mobile business unit, GestureTek Mobile, has been selected as the Overall Winner at the GSMA's Mobile Innovation Global Awards at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Award was presented to GestureTek at the Global Mobile Awards gala evening at Barcelona's National Palace, in recognition of the company's innovative gesture-controlled mobile gaming and navigation software.
GestureTek's EyeMobile Engine takes mobile gaming and navigation to new heights. This software-only solution uses the existing camera on a mobile device to deliver a gesture-based interface to mobile applications. An entertaining and intuitive alternative to conventional button interfaces, EyeMobile allows users to do anything they would normally do with their mobile device, such as play games, answer calls, make menu selections or scroll, pan and zoom in on photos, simply by shaking, rocking or rolling their device. With the EyeMobile Engine, handset manufacturers can offer all of the benefits of gesture recognition technology, without the expense and real estate of adding specialized hardware. The EyeMobile Engine Application Programming Interface (API) also provides application developers with the means to integrate motion control into their applications, much as they do with current conventional controls, such as keys and buttons.

"We are thrilled to have won this award. It demonstrates the growing popularity of gesture-control solutions for mobile gaming and navigation, and further reinforces the solid reputation that GestureTek Mobile has earned with developers, mobile device manufacturers and carriers. Similar solutions are moving to laptops, consoles, PCs and set top boxes," says Bill Leckonby, CEO of GestureTek.
Since GestureTek Mobile's inception in 2006, the company's achievements have been monumental:
  • Embedded the company's software on more than 50 million mobile devices worldwide -- including those operating on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 platform and various handsets from carriers such as Verizon, Alltel and Cellular South, as well as the NTT DoCoMo 904i, 905i and 705i series.
  • Delivered the technology used in more than 100 gesture-controlled games and applications launched by developers worldwide.
  • Introduced the world's first application that allows gesture-controlled navigation of maps with GPS integration.
  • Won more than a half-dozen awards and accolades for mobile technology innovation, including LAPTOP Magazine's 'Best of CTIA', the NATPE Mobile ++ Top 12 hot mobile applications, BREW Game Developer's 'Best Up and Coming Application', International Mobile Gaming Awards and the IGN Editor's Choice Award.
  • Featured its gesture-enabled games on Mobile Internet Devices based on Intel low power technologies at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
  • Announced a partnership and investment agreement with Spain's leading telecommunications operator, Telefonica SA, to finance market growth and expansion and to further develop and commercialize new gesture-controlled gaming and navigation applications for the mobile marketplace, as well as for PCs, consoles and set-top boxes.
  • Licensed the company's patents and technology to other industry giants, including Microsoft, Sony, Hasbro, NTT DoCoMo and many other game development companies.
GestureTek is exhibiting at the GSMA's Mobile World Congress in the Canadian Pavilion, Booth 2.1C58 and at the Telefonica Booth, 8B178 and 8B185, as well as at booth IZ21 at the Innovation Zone in the Mobile Innovation Marketplace.
In addition to NTT DoCoMo and Telefonica, GestureTek's 3000+ clients include leading organizations such as Cingular/AT&T Wireless, Verizon, Samsung, Vodafone, CNN, BMW, Ford, Oracle, Intel, IBM, Federal Express and Panasonic.
