Dell Axim at Work

It’s always good to see Mobile technology at work, but it’s really special to see a device we covered so extensively at Aximsite out there. Just 10 minutes ago, I left a gas station that I stop at to grab a drink each morning. I walked up to the cashier and she had Fred, an employee of Cintas handing her a Dell Axim for a signature. Cintas is a uniform company that delivers uniforms for the companies employees.

It’s really nice to see the Dell Axim still being used as a tool. The device is still quite powerful and today’s modern phones and PDAs have done little to leave it behind in the performance department.

Very true, Chris. I've just ordered a new battery for my X50, despite having upgraded to my iPAQ earlier this year. The Axim is just too good to disappear into the bottom of my gadget drawer.

On the retail side of life..., this is news?
I've seen several X5's and X50's...Kraft Canada must have a contract.
Just today, I saw an Axim on the sales counter as I purchased my Coke. I began pocketing it wondering when I pulled it out...The guy in front snatched it out of my hands...I then realized my Axim was still in my pocket. Whoops! :)

I still love my Axim...

I got a little sidetracked using other devices. Started with the Treo, then started using a Motorola MC75 for work. Recently I took out my X51v. Wow! Why did I put it aside? Fast, great graphics, good battery life.

Alas, about the only thing it won't do is read the barcodes printed using my barcode font. I'm going to try to use a bluetooth barcode scanner with it this weekend.

Yeah, I work for Cintas Firstaid & Safety, and we use Dell Axims everyday for our invoicing and daily stops. We have scanners on them to scan barcodes and at the end of the day we plug in modems and upload the days work to Cintas.

Hello,
I use mine for Clinical Pharmacy, patient profiles, insurance info, interactions, calculator, excel sheets calculating kidney and liver function, which brand the hospital is now stocking, chemotherapy recipes, everything.
Unbelieveably useful, wouldn't be without it, much handier than my laptop while making rounds, etc.
The larger screen of the X51v much more useful than the smaller screen of the smart phones I've seen.

I use my x51v every single day at work. I'm a copier service technician (just completed my 20th year of service at the same company I started at) and use my Ax for storing tons of data about copiers- service, parts and price manuals for around a hundred models. I also use it for storing copious amounts of info on computer networking and computers in general, since I also wear the hat of backup IT guy. I don't even own a laptop- got the Ax instead and don't regret it a bit. I carry it on me all day long, something I couldn't do comfortably with a laptop.

Cintas also cleans rugs/mats. They come in once a week at the Big Lots I work at. They roll up the old rugs, lay some new ones down, and have the manager on duty sign a Dell Axim x50. I've compared my x51v with his unit and we've chatted about it a few times.

I also don't know why I put my X50v away for an IPOD Touch. But, when I LOST my Touch, I decided not to replace it, since I have everything I need with my Axim.

Somebody was showing me their ipod touch and wanted me to be amazed by it.
I was thinking, "I have a 3 year old axim that can do all of this!"

-CF/SD cards give you just as much storage.
-Wifi
-Touch screen
-Games
-Etc....

Sure, wm may not look as nice, but it gets the job done.

Every now and then I think about the day I finally decided to spend the money for the top of the line x51v and smile. At the time it seemed like a big leap but I have NEVER had a day I regretted it. Sometimes it's almost a rush or a high.
