I'm a pretty new person here so I don't have much to say in the way of history. I do know that I've had a lot of answers for questions in the short time I've been here! I've bookmarked this page and am glad it's here for us newbies!
I haven't experienced any problems with the page loading and like the clean easy to read format of it. Seeing as how I may win an X51 here (wink wink) I know I'll definitely be posting more in the future :)

I was hear before the merge but I'm mostly a lurker. I used some posts to figure out how to get video on to my Axim, which was very helpful. I don't think I've really contributed that much to the site...pointed a couple of other people here, that's about it.

I actually started reading Aximsite because a friend of mine got a Dell Axim. I didn't have an Axim as I had gone the HP route and had then owned an HP567. Well, as things go, the 567 screen went south just about the time the iPaq22xx series came out. I went through my companies EPP link to HP and picked up the 2215. I then jumped in a became a member of Aximsite and shortly thereafter iPaqsite.
My fondest memory was winning a big contest. I wrote a ditty about getting bling for my iPaq. It was a year in which I won a number of contests. I guess I had built up a lot of luck!
Anyway, I still come to this site just about everyday...

I remember the days when I used my Palm T3 and I was debating if I should get a WM device and if so what kind. I found AximSite and I knew with a community like this behind the product, I couldn't go wrong. I made a good decision. :)

Memories
I can remember when Chris had more time and wasn't running all over the place. I am one of the members who still had an axim back when it was aximsite. I was one of the members who remember all the talk about how great the axim was and how much farther ahead Dell was than anyone else at the time. I remember thinking that cell phones and Pocket PCs would never merge. I can still remember when I had two separate devices! I mean it was awesome when Dell first released the axim because it was one of the first to have a 624mhz processor which was unheard of at the time. VGA resolution rocks and Dell was one of the first with that as well! I now own a touch pro through sprint and I am enjoying VGA again finally. I do love the axim and will always have a place in my heart for it!

My relationship with Mobility Site started this summer, in June, when I was in search of more information about the release of the new iPhone. I came here after searching something on Google. I remember that at almost every visit (I visited several times a day and still am) I was finding more and more newer and interesting articles and I really liked that. I don't like sites and blogs which don't update at least 2-3 times a day.
I also remember the cool contests you had then, the iPhone 3G giveaway, the Nokia N95 which I was really close to win. Now, all these new contests are amazing.
I wish Mobility Site a long and bright future :)

Well i havent had a long or complex history with your sites, but i found gotzune.com 1 year ago this january 1st. I have been reading gotzune everyday (if its updated) and reading that site, led me to all your other sites. But i do remember when the servers went down for a while on gotzune (and maybe your other sites) because you were switching your servers or moving them to a new location. That week seemed like forever. haha well i love all your sites and skim through gotzune and mobilitysite everyday. thanks for the chance!

I really appreciate the insight of the members here, especially from the ones who are helping develop some of the roms. It's also nice that it's a calm, mature board, compared to other's I've been on. I have learned a ton, and hope to help others with my tinkering, also it has definately outlived, axim users, there hasn't been any activity on that board in ages.

My favorite memories are from the Axim "haydays." I was so delighted to find a web site and community that was talking exclusively about the PDA that I owned - the X5. Over the two to three years that I owned it, I loved visiting the forums for tweaks and tips. I had the most fun with the Compact Flash add-ins, like wireless cards and the unforgettable Flypresenter VGA out card. What a hoot!
When the X3 came along, I read all of the hype very carefully, and decided it was only an incremental upgrade. Meanwhile, PPC 2003 came out, and I made a first software step up - along with purchasing another X5 for my wife.
I drooled over the new photos and reviews of the x50 - what a cool machine! And I thought that the new VGA screens were amazing. Aximsite gave me the blow-by-blow as these machines came to market, and I don't know how many times I priced them at Dell.com....
What finally kicked me over was the advent of WM5 - and the x51v. THIS was the machine I was waiting for! With the help of Aximsite - I learned the machine inside and out well before it came out. On its arrival it was such a kickass machine, it was great to be part of the banter, speculation, and even some of the rants over where the PDA was heading, and what we might use a unit with these specs for.
I used Dell.com for some drivers for my units, but got all my real support and information about what to "really do" with the machines from Aximsite. From new ROM features ("Should I upgrade to A12?") to what to do about the damn backup battery notifications, the people here got me up to snuff with my X5 -- and this likewise continued with the x51v.
The site evolution has been great. While I with many others bemoaned Dell dropping out of the PDA market, as this had driven so much excitement and buzz at the site, I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the emergence of Mobilitysite. Chris, you read the signs of the times really well -- and you pretty much read my mind as well. While I am still among those who are porting the big heavy PDA and a phone around, I am looking toward convergence, and have been reconfiguring my mobility needs.
I have followed the activity here just about every weekday and many weekends since January 2003 -- ooohing and ahhing over this or that unboxing, reading software reviews, checking specs, enjoying the industry gossip. I know that a smartphone is definitely in my future -- but am still having trouble with the idea of parting with my awesome x51v.
Besides the contests, which have been simply amazing, I have deeply appreciated the in-depth reviews and how-tos. Things that immediately come to mind are the incredible stereo bluetooth tutorials, and menneisys' and ikehiker's fantastic wireless forays. All of the mods and staff deliver incredibly high quality evaluations and walk-throughs. And despite how much quieter the forums have become, the veterans still frequently pop in with just the right answer to some amazingly particular questions.
And, well, Chris -- I can't imagine anyone other than Mr. Leckness at the helm. When we have gone through some sort of controversy or change, Chris has always had the right spin on the situation, a well thought out response, and a decisive judgment call to take us forward. The cooked ROM controversy is a good example, along with the mergers, the reformatting of features and the advent of the blog format, and more.
It is amazing that this site/these sites have been around as long as they have. On the Internet, 6 years is pushing infinity! Thank you, Chris, for the dedication, leadership and sense of fun that keep so many of us coming back. They say, "Don't quit your day job." I say, "Don't quit your night job, either!"

Remember unpacking my first PDA Axim Dell X50 and the feeling of being a newbie. Googled Axim and found the greatest site..Aximsite. Followed links to freeware and some sharewares and turned the Dell into my own. Games, videos, music, and some actual work related uses.

Dell Axim X51 Contest
I cannot say I have a lot of fond memories of AximSite/MobilitySite for, although I read the front page news regularly, I just now found the courage (or should I say encouragement? :) ) to join. However, perhaps one day, when asked the same question, I shall be able to respond that my fondest memory of AximSite/MobilitySite is the day Chris selected me as the lucky recipient of an Axim X51, the last of the once-proud Dell line of PDAs.
High, Mid, or Low,
I shant never go,
Forgetting my thankfulness,
For Chris Lechness.

I still fondly remember my introduction to blogging, writing the Palm Eye for the iPaq Guy column at iPaqHQ for a couple months.
I had a great time and loved working with Chris so I jumped at the chance when I noticed a couple years later that he was looking for news editors at the bigger, better badder MobilitySite.
