My first PDA was an iPaq 3150... Yes, folks a black and White PDA. It could do little more than solitare and outlook.
I then moved to a Nokia 3650, with that weird circular dialpad. There were quite a few apps that made it kind of useful.
I then bought an iPaq 5455 and I loved the biometric security feature. I used this one as a tool in addition to a toy. I bought a CF LAN card for it and used it for network diagnostics.
The one I had the longest was my Axim x50v. How could you not love that beautiful VGA screen and dual card slots? After using that for a year or so I handed it down to my wife and upgraded to an x51v. Amazingly, they could make the perfect device better.
Only after 2 years of BT pairing frustration did I move to a converged PPC phone, but the 8525 was too much to resist. A sliding keyboard and integrated 3g data connection was very convenient... I just really missed the Axim's screen.
It has been over 2 years now and while the 8525 still works perfectly, the latest generation of devices have packed even more features into a PDA.

First of all thanks for creating contest like this, so one of us could walk away with our very own fuze. I have AT&T and i have been a proud costumer for numerous years. I have had many phones in the past but only one smartphone a Samsung Eternity its a great phone but it doesn't beat the HTC fuze. Which is a great phone with Wi-Fi and windows mobile but a little out of my budget.
1) A Compaq H3765 - Running Windows Mobile 2002
2) A Dell Axim X51v - Still use it today!
3) A Palm T|X for a while - gave that to a friend. I never liked Palms (except for the ones running Windows Mobile)... :)
Throughout all my years with PDA's, I've always loved everyone I had/have. I still use my X51v to this day, but I would like a newer PDA also!
Thanks Chris for this contest!

PDA's
Palm III
Palm V (Probably the best one for it's time)
Palm VII (yeah, that one sucked)
More Clie's than I can count, and I can never remember their model numbers
Several HP PDA's through work, nothing that I'd note as good.
A couple Axim's, but those came about the same time as my first smartphone, so they went largely ignored compared to the others. Last Axim was a 2003SE edition, but can't remember the model specifically.
Smartphones:
SMT5600
Cingular 2125
Cingular 3125
Cingular 8125
AT&T Tilt (Current, and does anyone else absolutely hate trying to dial on this thing? Even with the largest dialer skin I can find, I still can't dial worth a darn in the car!)
My first PDA was a Casio BE-300, I found the interface a bit dull until I discovered the BE-300 forum about a year into owning it, expanding its potential. I eventually switched because I wanted one with wifi.
Finding Aximsite was the reason I chose a Dell X50v to replace the BE, and I've been using it for 3 years now. It's sturdy enough to last even longer, so I really have no excuse to switch for now. Will probably get a WM phone when the axim dies on me.
Well i remember my first ever cell phone was a crappy motorola flip phone with no camera. Then about a year or so later i upgraded to a silver moto razr which wasnt perfect and got thrown into a pool....needless to say i really didnt care. After the pool incident i went and bought a better moto slider phone resembling the Lg Chocolate. Then i just said to my self "i need a smartphone" I hated my network T-Mobile so i thought the iphone looked pretty cool, paid $200 to get out of my contract (thats how much i hate T-Mobile) and bought an iphone. I got everyone in my family to convert to AT&T along with me. My mother actually bought a BlackJack II. After i had my iphone for 8 months, i dropped it from a distance and it fell on the concrete and cracked. Now currently i have a white iPhone 3G. I always LOVED the HTC fuze and i really want it. I have grown to love windows mobile even tho at first when i used it i wasnt SO thrilled. I mean, i love my iphone and that wont change, but i also love windows mobile. I think they both have there advantages and its very ignorant and stupid to sit around and fight over which platform is better. Thanks.
My pda history began around 3 years ago when I got the Dell Axim x51v. Until this day, I remain faithful to my axim. In brief, pda Hist. at a glance is as follows:
-Dell Axim x51v =) That's it!
Thnx for the contest!
My first pda was a palm IIIx, I loved it, but the syncing info before changing batteries was annoying to me. I had the bookstyle leather case, and a few games off a trial I disc I got locally. I don't really think I used it all that much now that I think about it. After seeing a few color pocket pc's I wanted more.
My next device was a HP Jornada 568, this was my first "real" pocket pc, and I loved the flip cover that came with it. I still consider the feature of using the hardware buttons to switch applications among the best. I eventually got all the add ons for it, the snap on keyboard with the little cover for the screen, that lit up, the fold out keyboard, a Symbol LA-4127 CF Wifi Card, the extended battery with the mmc slot, I also had the expansion slot add on that could accomodate the pcmcia card, and there were people using air cards at the time to get really low speed cell service around town. With all the bolt ons, the 568 was like carrying a brick in your pocket though. I carried it around in one of the old school Oakley sunglasses microfiber bags that were anti-dust.Eventually, the famous dust under the screen problems, and wanting more processor speed made me sell it in favor of a Dell Axim X5.
I got the advanced model, and fortunately for me, Symbol made drivers for 2003, so I could use the wifi card I had with the Jornada. CF Wifi cards were still a little bit pricey at the time, so hats off to Symbol. I didn't know anything about flashing roms, so I made sure I got the 2003 A05 right off the bat. The x5 had the best battery life ever. I could easily get 12 hours with the standard battery and 25+ hours with the extended battery. I eventually got the snapon Belkin Keyboard, the Dell foldout keyboard, a Rhino aluminum case, and a couple of the portable chargers. It may seem like I spend a lot on accessories, but the acquisition of these items actually represents hours of browsing deals on ebay. Eventually, I wanted even more power, and the bulk of the x5 in dell pouch was not very pocketable, and or convenient to carry around, with the wifi card too. I always wanted a Dell Axim x51v, but in a local deal ended up getting an x30 for $50 bucks. I picked up a pristine 300 mhz x5 locally for $25 bucks, that I carried around, without any worries if it got messed up or not.
I don't have much experience with the x30, except that my wife took it for her own, and well...that was that. I flashed the rom to the latest 2003se, and put some programs on it for her, and she loves it. To me the x30 is the perfect size, it can easily fit in a shirt pocket, she has an extended battery, and case for it, and is not interested in an x51v, until she saw spb mobileshell on my x51v. I don't think she'll ever get rid of it.
The x50v really opened my eyes to what was possible on a pocket pc from a multimedia point of view. I still have all the accesories, that I use on my x51v. Finally, integrated wifi and bluetooth! Most emulators for games would run without a hitch too, unlike on the x5. One of the first things that struck me was the battery life compared to the x5 though, it was far far less. I flashed flashlites, wm 6 A03, and though it was buggy, I liked the improved interface, and felt as though I had a "modern" device, since it was still relatively new. One day the device decided to hard reset itself, and only show weird colors on the screen, so I reflashed to A02, and didn't have any problems. Eventually I flashed Lennys L09 wm 6.1 and was happy, except for the odd pauses I got due to the nor ram. I finally got fed up with the filesys problem, and upgraded to my final device the x51v.
The present-the x51v, the thing that amazes me about this device is that its relatively old for electronics, yet still has specs that exceed or match almost all current phones, and I have no desire to upgrade really. Currently, I have 6 standard batteries, a little pouch to carry them around in, a silver aluminum hard case, the slip case, and a few cf/sdhc's. I hope my axim lives forever, and even if it broke down, Id probably just get another one on ebay.
As far as smartphone use goes, I currently own a Nokia E61, the battery life, the speaker and screen is great, though it's a little slow. I used to have a Razr since it fit in my pocket well with the axim, and I didn't care if it got beat around, but my brother lost his E61, bought an iphone, and then a month later found the E61 under his car seat and asked if I would like it. Of course I jumped at the offer.
Wow, well guess I got a little carried away, but thats my pda/smartphone history.

I am currently using the HTC Fuze and I think it one of the best ones that I have had, next to the x50v and x51v of course. I wish Dell did not stopped producing these. I think that if they had come out with a WM6 Phone it would have been out of this world.
I've kept them apart, until now, believing that a standalone PDA gives greater horsepower than a "do-it-all" PDA/phone combo. Meanwhile, this has allowed me to keep my cellphones small. I've bought a couple of FP Jornada 720 handheld PCs over the years (cheaply) which have given me the ability to edit Word documents on a decent-sized keyboard (my primary app), upload via Wi-Fi, and still remain very portable.
Now, with the HTC Touch Pro/Fuze, I think I can probably have it all--phone, PDA with WinMo PC-integration (but TouchFlo usability, too! ), Wi-Fi internet connectivity, music via A2DP, etc. Including my music player, this will replace 3 devices, so I'm pretty psyched!
Well, I'm really lame. Hahaha I have never owned any PDAs or smartphones. My cellphone right now is an aged Sony Ericsson K750i. It's pretty decent though. Does what its supposed to do. Pretty smart for a non-smart phone. But of course, it's about 3 almost 4 years old now, so that's like ancient in mobile age.
I got my first taste of the pda world long ago when I got my hands on an old Palm M100. I even got someone to mod it for me so I had the expanded memory...I was very happy with it for a long time.
Then, back in 2002, my wife/then girlfriend bought me an Axim X5 Advanced. I loved that thing. I got a wireless card and a keyboard, used it for school. I would even use it to connect to clients pc's while I was in class so I could work at the same time. It was my best friend. Sadly, after 4 years it was slowly died. I tried to bring it back via a screen replacement, but the poor thing was beyond hope.
Fortunately, I was graduating from college, and what did I get for a graduation present? That's right! I got my current X51v! I have kept it just as close to me as I did my X5. The thing sleeps right next to me, sometimes I fall asleep with it in my hand. I've avoided any upgrades with my cell phone because I love my Ax so much that I don't want to make it jealous by using another pda. She still has a warranty...so until she dies for good...she'll be right by my side, giving me the internet/video/music/email/etc.
Let's see, my first Windows Mobile device was the Cingular 8125 which I bought in March of 2006. Prior to that I had been a frustrated standard cell phone user. I was adamant that I would not but a PDA until it could replace my camera, pocket calendar (paper!), cell phone texting, cell phone emails, cell phone calling, connected to wifi, and was customizable. I bought the 8125 online 2 days after release, I was in heaven.
I have been a Windows Mobile user ever since. I religiously follow the latest and greatest hardware/software/developments on a daily basis always looking for new customizations and drooling over an upgraded device.
After the 8125, I tried the 2125 but didn't like the phone-style and lack of a full keyboard
I tried the Pantech Duo, same result, I didn't like the smartphone limitations
I tried the 8525, like the upgrade from the 8125
I tried an unlocked Sprint Touch, but didn't like the lack of a functional keys.
I also tried an unlocked Sprint Mogul with EVDO RevA, very nice device for me at the time.
Eventually I came back to an AT&T proprietary device (flashed with a custom ROM of course) in the form of the Tilt.
The Tilt has been an impressive device. I appreciate the full keyboard, M2d, GPS, video playback, HSDPA, large display, and number of customizable buttons, but has run its course and its time to look at the FUZE.
With the 2 year upgrade windows and financial constraints I'm hoping this response warrants a nice Christmas present in the form of a Fuze.
