I'm okay with it, but what's the hook? Why not take several of these "nano-albums" and consolidate them onto a single micro-SD card?

If the player is any good, I will do just that. If not, then it's a gimmick.

I'm sorry I think it is silly. I would be very surprise if this really catches on.

Interesting idea, but I don't think it will work - CDs still cost less, and I can't play a slotMusic card in my car yet.

It was so my idea in 2005!

I even revisted the thread when slotmusic came out. Here is the link to the thread i made on it back in 2005:
Will SD ever replace CD?

Interesting concept. However, after about 5 SD cards I think you get back to the same medium-management problem you have with multiple CD's. It's still ultimately going to be better to keep it all on one device (like an iPod, or an Axim).
Still, if it ships DRM-free, it's just that much easier to move to that unifying device.

SlotMusic

I think SlotMusic could work if it's not priced too high (in the ballpark of regular CDs). For a good discussion of the format, check out the Smartphone Thoughts SlotMusic thread.

Hmmm, I already have a hard time keeping track of my CD's....now trying to keep track of these teeny tiny MicroSD cards???? I think I'll stick with Rhapsody!

I miss LPs

The downside of this idea is: easy to loose, difficult to find among other cards. And I miss the big cover art that you had on LPs. Of course, LPs take a lot of space, and so does CDs.

IF this becomes the new standard, I hope that the format is not MP3s, but lossless (FLAC or another lossless format). And I hope that it comes with a kind of cover that is big enough and easy to identify. And the players has to support gapless playback.

well, the digital sales have finally surpassed (somewhat) hardcopies, so this isn't surprising. A large share of the market will be attached to something like this, for sure, if the price falls down a bit. I personally will never buy these unless I get lossless copies of my music (don't need the music video, youtube ftw). Maybe they should release two separate versions, one for regular folks, and another for music enthusiasts. With the cost of viable audio systems going down, I don't think the latter is just a niche market.

Bad idea. I still like iTunes store and Rhapsody. You got to have a "slot-enabled" device...

This looks interesting, but I am not sure it will be a big hit because you could do the same thing with a download from the internet. Also, I think it should be at least CD quality if not better. It says the average listener cannot tell the difference, but there are lot of people that are very picky about their sound quality.

the advantage is having the extras on the disk.
