Interesting concept. However, after about 5 SD cards I think you get back to the same medium-management problem you have with multiple CD's. It's still ultimately going to be better to keep it all on one device (like an iPod, or an Axim).
Still, if it ships DRM-free, it's just that much easier to move to that unifying device.
Yea, that is true. But, the music stores need something to sell, too...
CDs are great digital audio, but they are big and bulky compared to the mere 700mb of data they fit. We now have sd cards, which can hold more, and while they may be more expensive than CDS, they are coming down in price.
Plus, the music industry is probably willing to try and change, b/c im sure they are losing a good chunk of sales to P2P.
Face it, CD players are not used for portable devices anymore. Cars, computers, and big stereo systems may have CD players for a while into the future, but CDS are obsolete as portable media.
Think of how many devices have microsd slots that are portable. Cell phones, mp3 players, pdas. It does make sense to put music on these, even if the profit vs CDS is less.

I think those that want digital content will just buy it from iTunes or another digital store and that the idea is semi-outdated. But cool contest none the less.
This is actually a really cool idea. I actually saw the Sansa Slot Music Player and the slot card at Wal-Mart. It is pretty inexpensive and I think it is neat. The Sansa Slot Player was around $20 for the player and earbuds. The Sansa slot card itself for an entire album varied from $10 to 19.99. I think this is easier to get music to and from your phone. The slot card I think don't quote me, but I think you can also a little bit of data on it. Hope I get this, because its pretty cool.
I think sandisk is a chance taker with new ideas.
They aren't afraid to try new things and open new markets with their products.
I hope it takes off and the music companies make slot albums available to the public.
I feel if they can even find a small niche market it might just make it.
Thanks Chris - this is quite timely as I'm about to go on a music spree over the holidays!

it has potential due to DRM free though with mp3 so popular and lossless music, I am not too sure if it would catch on. Specially with ipod's dominance in the digital music.
Hmmm great idea, but I also believe it is too late.I cannot keep all my CDs and all the backups on a drive right now.
I love the idea of the extras on the card. I am a die hard, and love to see what artists are contributing, any stories, maybe a clear explanation of effects etc. used on what songs, plus it might bring back the vinyl sleeve idea of either a small story, or phenomenal artwork that is missing these days.
Unfortunately I lose my glasses, keys, and a hell of a lot more daily, so these would probably picked out of the vacuum cleaner.
This looks and feels to me like the next progression of distributing music to consumers -
vinyl
8-track
cassette
CD
and now this
Interesting concept if you are really into the bands that you listen to as opposed to just wanting to listen to music. Some people like the extras, some don't. This does mean carrying multiple cards versus lets say an iPod with 120Gb of music on it.
I agree it is quite novel, but think about this. They are using the same microSD that you use for your phone. So you can get an album and just plug it into your phone without having to download anything, plus it allows you to use it for other data as well. I think it might catch on.
