Just from the little bit I read it looks like they've found a way to distribute digital content and give the end user something tangible. It will be interesting to see if it takes off.
Intriguing! Sure would save a lot of steps for people who are schlepping through the process of ripping cd tracks for their mp3 players. I also like the sound of the QUALITY of the mp3s.
At the same time - I am not sure if DRM free and high bit rates will be enough to give it an advantage over just downloading the songs you want online.
As much as I want to see CD's bite the dust, I don't think this is the silver bullet that will do it. People who are likely to buy one of these cards are technically savvy people who probably already download their music. I don't think it's going to work, but I give Sandisk kudos for trying.
Sorry but I can not see this taking off. Buying music from one of the online stores is so easy these days. Most people will not know what to do with the cards. I also think they will be darn easy to loose. I like my Sansa MP3 player but do not see myself using the Slot Player. Also, $14.99 for a "card" seem too expensive to me.
However, why would I want to wait for the SD card to come in via the mail or go shopping for it when I can go to Amazon MP3 or Rhapsody and download the same album at 256 bitrate, probably for less, and not even have to deal with physical media?
Good idea, but about 5 years too late, in my opinion.
No DRM, extremely mobile and versatile card format, major artists, What's not to like? Hell, the only way it could be better is if it were free! OK, we know that's not going to happen, but I can deal!
