I think gps will become more integrated with you PIM software. Imagine that, you have a meeting invitation and you hit the "Nav" button and you go... you look up restaurants...then you check you bank account get some money and also see where some your contacts are at. you call and you meet at a restaurant nearby.
I can see GPS-enabled Oakleys where the screen is fully integrated into the lenses. The menu will be voice controlled. Bluetooth technology fully integrates the cell phone to the set up and allows you to call points of interest or 411google type inquiries.
(Then I woke up from my tequila binge and was deeply disappointed).

They are being used for helping us get where we are going, and to figure out where something else is (like in Nativity figures to prevent theft).
I think as someone figures out a need to see where something is going they will find another use for a GPS.
Perhaps it will be for tracking packages (GPS that would contact someone with its current location).
Perhaps tracking transportation, like busses, or taxis, or even cargo carriers.
They could also be used to track where children are who have borrowed the car for the evening.
I would guess there may already be some of these things happening.
I heard where they were putting tracking GPS' in shoes to track Altermizer's patients.
I would definitely be looking at high-accuracy embedded GPS. As of now, I don't think we have sub-meter accurate GPS that is inside any pocket device. It would be useful because you do not have to carry a receiver around and the accuracy you get is phenomenal.

Having GPS in devices are becoming more and more common place. I think that they will soon become as common as radios and soon be in all cars. If not for navigation, but for emergency location.
i'd like to see more live traffic with auto routes based on reports. i'm also hoping more of the globe could be covered (i'm always stuck when i get in central europe). it's would also be awesome if they could get a credit card sized gps device your could just pull out of your wallet when you need it.
In short, I think future phones will have all kinds of apps relying on gps. Not only for navigation, but also for weather and travel programs for instance such as those of fizz, sbsh, and spb
GPS will be a standard active feature of even the most basic cell phones (whether the owner uses it for directions or not). It's standard functions will be used more widely, but it will also be used more and more for emergency purposes (locating individuals). I can also see the marketing industry use it to give personalized advertising in your current public location.
i don't know how i made it for so long without Gps, remember having to find a printer to print where i was supposed to go from yahoo maps, and that was a headache, when there was no printer any where close, used to have to write all the directions down...now i can have it with me anywhere i go. i am sure in the future, u'll be able to see where wife, or husband or kids are thru bluetooth and gps combined. they can track their phone down...
I think GPS will get more personalized, with the ability to link several devices together. Your phone w/GPS will keep in contact with your kids/parent's phones to keep everyone closer together.
More accuracy, especially in cities with tall buildings!
GPS, telephony, video, and the rest will become more and more integrated, more and more personal, and smaller and smaller. It may come down to a small pendant, or, better yet, a chip embedded in the skin -- which will either feed data directly to our ears/eyes, or perhaps give us instant access to myriads of interfaces - in our cars, banks, homes, refrigerators, toll booths, school desks --- you name it!
GPS
I see a great future for GPS in mobile devices. I, like many friends, bought navigation devices, or installed them in our vehicles. The integration will continue and the advances will continue -- traffic, nearby resources, connecting people, verbal instructions. Whether GPS for Windows Mobile software will compete and become universal is still something to watch and hope for, but there is no doubt it is valuable and practical, exciting and unlimited in possibilities. Just keep designing it, building it, and improving it, and we will come.
Msliberty ,
I think we will see location-based advertising and coupons. It may even go so far as to be like Minority Report but based on GPS rather than retina scans.
We will also most definitely see more tracking applications.
GPS is mobile devices has a lot of potential. The biggest hurdle right now is the battery life of the devices when the GPS is turned on. Once that is improved, it will be a great addition to any device.
