What the 'iPhone' should do ... an interesting perspective

There has been a lot of speculation on an iPod phone and most (if not all) has been based on just that ... SPECULATION. Virtually every where you go on the net for "tech news", that is what you see ... iPod phone discussions. I wonder if the "buzz" was started at Apple to counter the Zune frenzy that was filling the news outlets? Most of the speculation has been based on reports from media outlets that have rather questionable track records but some of it has been from respected sites. Regardless of where it has been coming from, I have been reading the items (probably like most of you) but until I get definitive information, I won't get my hopes up that it will be soon.... What I did see today was an article by Scott Ard, an Executive News Editor from C/NET that took a different and interesting approach. Scott wanted to talk about what he thoughtan Apple iPhone should do. I liked that approach and I liked his article so I thought I'd pass it on to you. In part Scott said:
...I would like to see an iPhone that connects to the owner's computer, allowing full streaming access to movies and music stored on the Mac (or PC). Call it "iTunes to Go." You might ask why any carriers would want to support an iPhone that is capable of streaming music and video from a PC. After all, many are starting to sell music and video content. But the iPhone would practically require owners to sign up for an all-you-can-eat data plan at what--$30 to $50 a month, on top of the regular cell bill? Someone's gotta see the appeal in that.
I agree Scott ... talk about a captive audience (and talk about just inserting the cash...whoa). You can read Scott's article onWhat the 'iPhone' should do here.

Too much.
Too much in a device. Too much cost. Too much Apple!

This coming week, a small Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company called Oxy Systems (Oxy Systems - Welcome to the mobile lifestyle) is expected to launch a new mobile music and social networking service called phling! that allows users to access, listen to and share music files with up to six friends (permission-based). Since no music is stored on the cell phone, there is no need to synch up (sideline) to your PC, as you need to do with an iPod and other mobile music services, like Cingular's. I'd watch this company, as it's new service will offer carriers the ability to compete with...and offer a next step...to what is expected from the Apple iPhone.
