Sony has become somewhat famous for its desire to get the world to use memory sticks. I loved the Clies but found myself forced to use the small, expensive memory sticks instead of the cheaper better cf or SD that I had from other devices. Then Sony pulled out of the PDA market and it looked like the Memory stick was doomed.

When the PSP used the MS Duo format it grabbed a huge slice of the market, and it now turns up regularly in Mobile phones, so it was Compact flash that was left out in the cold.

So it's something of a surprise that Sony is now entering the dwindling Compact Flash market, that started in 1994.

The first Sony CompactFlashTM memory cards will be available later this Spring. The initialline-up will include CompactFlash Type I cards with 66x and 133x transfer speeds and capacities between 1GB and 4GB .he products will be branded as part of Sony’s a100 DSLR camera system.

A 1GB or 4GB Compact Flash... I can hardly contain my excitement. I bet Sandisk are quaking in their boots.

Maybe I'm paranoid in wondering: Will these cards work in non-Sony devices and non-Sony cards work in newer Sony CF devices?

this is the reason why I won't ever touch a Sony product again. My Sony Computer I bought 3 years ago didn't include the ever popular SD card slot, and I was very dismayed by that.
