Dell gets all Rugged on the laptop front

Dell is having a go at carving out some market share in the Rugged laptop market currently dominated by the Panasonic Toughbook.

The Latitude ATG D260 meets the military specs for dust, vibration, humidity, altitude and presumably being shouted at by Drill Sergeants. At $2500 it's going to be attractive to engineers, construction sites, studies and inspections, as well as the Army guys.

If only they weren't so bloody expensive.. That, and lately I've not been much of a fan of Dell because of some of the issues I've had with their equipment lately.

I'll stick with my HP Pavilion dv1000.. It's taken over a year of abuse now and still keeps coming back for more.. And I certainly beat the hell out of it.. :)

That's a pretty good price compared to some of the new ruggedized UMPCs I've seen ($3500-4500). Still, it's a big chunk of change!

I'll probably never own one of these but they sure do sound nice.

Ruggedized UMPC's?!? Wow.. It'd be interesting to see how they did that.. Most laptop/notebooks I've seen that have been ruggedized have put on a few extra pounds and generally speaking are a bit larger.. I couldn't imagine something as small as a UMPC being ruggedized.. Then again, I have no imagination at teh moment either.. ;)
