Cingular Palm Treo 750 - Day 6 - Palm Innovations

I powered up the Treo 700w and 700wx today to check out some of the differences in the devices and it occured to me once again how amazing the Palm Added Value of these phones are. Like the BASF commercials, BASF doesn't make the product, they make it better. Well, Palm doesn't make the OS, they make it better. Palm has added some great funtionality to the Windows Mobile OS. To those of you with previous Windows Mobile Powered Treos, this is no surprise, but for the GSM folks that never got to use a Window Mobile Treo, here ya go. Here is a list from the Palm Website:
  • Dial or message by name - Type in Jac and Jack Cook pops up. (and some others, but...)
  • Convenient call management - Yep. Very convenient. Calls are so easy to 1 hand on this phone. Dialing, calling using contacts, you name it!
  • Centralized voicemail control - No comment
  • Picture Caller ID - I thought this was part of the OS. Other phones I have allow this too.
  • Photo speed dial - This is a really nice today screen enhancement. Sort of like the t-mobile thing some folks raved about with the Dash.
  • Personalized ringtones - ??? Not really innovative.
  • Web search - Search the web from the Today Screen. Pretty cool, but i'd rather just load up IE and search.
  • Chat view- Now this one is great. You can follow the conversation with IM style threading for your Text Messages.
With the Treo series of Phones, Palm has captured a form factor that seems to be one of the best around and certainly the most popular among business users. Palm was very smart to team up with Microsoft to give more people a "Palm" choice. Now with the Cingular 750 version, you can have a GSM or CDMA carrier and still get a Treo. You can be a Palm Guy or a Microsoft Guy and still get a Treo. The Price of the Treo 680 also allows the frugal to get a Palm Treo. They have almost every base covered now. A little about processor speed.
The Cingular Palm Treo 750 has a 300mhz Samsung Processor. This processor is more than adequate to run almost anything you can throw at it. There are now real slow downs running video or even running GPS Software. I just published two videos where I ran some GPS Software from Garmin on the Treo 750. You can check them out to see that the Processor kept up just fine. I have also run a couple videos off the mini-SD card and they ran more smoothly than I expected.

I've been very Treo sceptical... but it does look like it might be a player after all.

(except for the fact that the only network over here that seems to do it is Vodafone and they are stooooooooopidly expensive for data).

But as a sim free option it looks like it will cut the mustard
