Late last night, Cisco and Apple announced that they had reached an agreement on the iPhone trademark dispute. Both are now "free to use the 'iPhone' trademark on their products throughout the world." In addition, "Both companies acknowledge the trademark ownership rights that have been granted, and each side will dismiss any pending actions regarding the trademark."
Alex Zaharov-Reutt had some interesting comments today on ITWire when he started his commentary with:
With Google being one of Cisco’s biggest customers, and Google CEO Dr. Eric Schmidt on Apple’s Board of Directors, could a potential Google backlash been on John Chambers’ mind when agreeing to end the iPhone lawsuit?
There was probably little doubt about the outcome and while both can say "they won",Cisco did come out with some great free publicity in the global market.
Take a moment and read Alex's article, he has an interesting perspective.
