Here is another neat program you can get from
PocketPCFreeware WiFiFoFum is a wireless network scanner (WiFi a, b, g) showing numerous items of information such as network type (AP or ad hoc), whether a WEP coding solution is present, WiFi channel used for broadcasting, SSID if broadcast, MAC address of the emitting hardware, discovery begin and end times, signal strength ... Used as a network sniffer, and compatible with numerous WiFi Pocket PCs or additional cards, this utility is a highly valuable tool and oh how easy to use when setting out to discover installed and non-protected wireless networks, for example. :-) (Warchalking and wardriving are our friends ...)
There is a significant number of PDA’s supported (HP iPAQ 5450, iPAQ 5550, iPAQ 4155, iPAQ 4350, Socket CF, Compaq WL110, Sandisk SD, Fulbond CF, Dell Axim 3i, Toshiba e750), which portends a brilliant future for this little hundred-kilobyte program, which will be a must for all WiFi Pocket PC’s out rambling around. There’s still lots of scope for further progress, with the upcoming addition of functionality like GPS support, a packet sniffer, etc.
Note: Despite the mention of ARM/XSCALE below, the program only works with Windows Mobile 2003 and WM5.
