Is it just me, or is HTC getting quite the buzz this year. I know they have been leading the pack on the edge of mobile technology, but it seems that they are ramping up on the innovation these past few months. We had the HTC Advantage, which is still in the buzz state, but now available for Tmobile Europe customers now. Now the HTC Kaiser, the HTC Hermes replacement, is starting to get into the buzz. Mobile Life posted some real photos of the Kaiser today. This looks like another solid offering from HTC. Looks just like the Hermes, but the screen doesn't really "slide out", it appears to be hinged. From the photos, they seem to have added a 3 Megapixel camera to the mix too. A little off topic, but we need more Qwerty front devices than just the Treo and the 6900 series. Yeah I know the Jaq has a candybar front, but we need htc to start bringing some of those devices to the market. As a former KJAM user, I can tell you that having the keyboard always available is much, much better than having to slide a KB in and out all the time. That's not even mentioning the ability to dial phone numbers! :)
I'm hoping to win Chris' Blackjack so I can determine if I prefer the keyboard out like that all the time. :D
But, I'm also thinking you're right on. I'm actually kinda tired of the slideout keyboards. They're a pain sometimes. But I'm wondering if the front facing keyboard is better? I haven't tried one out, so I'm not really sure. I know that I've played with the Treo 650's, and didn't like them at all, but that's also because they were Palm-based devices, and not WM.
That said, back to the HTC Kaiser, I'm not sure I like it. I'm not sure on a device that small that it's necessary to tilt the display up like that. Plus, I think HTC needs to concentrate on ironing out bugs in their current devices instead of pushing new ones to market. Between hardware issues and software issues, they're really starting to drive me nuts. At least, that's been the case with their recent crop of devices at any rate (Wizard, Hermes, and all the others that I haven't owned). The HTC Typhoon is the only device I've had by them that didn't give me a world of problems...and now that I have mine fixed, it's why it's my back up phone (although the WM2003SE aspect of it is killing me).
It will be interesting to see what happens with it.

I agrre with having more keyboards on the front. I had a treo 600 and while the phone was terrible I really liked the form factor, don't like palm OS. I now have a 8125 and as a phone it is great but no real easy way to search contacts without sliding out the keyboard. I wish I had waited for the Blackjack or one of the Windows Mobile treos.
This device looks cool but I would be worried about the hinge getting broke. I am hard enough on phones as it is. The 3MP camera would be nice though. I use my camera more than I thought I would and 1.2 MP isn't enough.
to be honest, when it comes to dialing numbers/contacts then i either voice dial, or use the stylus/finger rather than the keyboard anyway
