Mike Temporale from Smartphone Thoughts put it better than I could ever put it. I think that it's a shame that people hack these ROMS. When something like this happens, it's both good and bad for me. I like the fact that the ROM is out there because it means that people that are waiting to legally obtain this upgrade should see something soon, but at the same time, those that cheat/steal get the goods before the honest folks.

I'm not sure why this is becoming such a common thing, but once again we're seeing a leaked ROM released on the internet before the carrier and device manufacturer has had a chance to finalize all the details. I'm not going to link to the ROM since it's far from official. I'm sure the resourceful amoung you will be able to find it (anyone linking to the ROM will have their posts removed). From what we've learned, this ROM is very close to the finished product. It's fully AT&T branded and everything seems to be working. The only exception is getting the alternate characters when you press and hold a key. Not too big a deal, in my opinion.

I'm not sure I agree with you. HTC, for example, has beeing saying there is going to be a WM6 upgrade for the Hermes for quite some time. Still haven't heard a final release date. Haven't seen any leaked ROM's of it yet.

However, I'm still running WM6 on my Hermes. And I love it. It is definitely a hacked ROM, but it runs better than any of the OEM ROM's that have been put out for it. Even the hacked WM5 ROM's have run significantly better than what the OEM's have put out. The modding community is producing results often times way better than the company that manufactures our phones. Not to mention the simple resolution of bugs.

Whether it's right or wrong, legal or illegal, I won't get into that debate. I'll just simply leave it at this: as long as the OEM's/carrier's are ultimately bent on screwing the consumer by not effectively supporting their products, the hacking/modding community will continue to do what it does, and ultimately fix what the OEM's/carrier's seemingly don't care to do. And because of this, I'll continue to run hacked ROM's.
