Many have noticed that the X5 is no longer on sale on Dell.com, but why?

I have wondered this myself. I finally have my answer. The X5 is gone temporarily. Due to "better than expected" sales, they have put a hold on internet sales until they replinish their supply. You can still order an X5 via phone sales, but the shipping is on hold until late March 04.

The X3 is still shipping on time and the prices have been slashed by $30 recently.

This is very interesting news and goes to show that the X5 is still a great machine that many still like. I can't say that I disagree either... SD and CF in a sexy looking unit with more than adequate processor and memory for less than the competition? Who wouldn't like the X5?

That's much better than if Dell said they weren't selling it because no one was buying the X5 anymore!

Thanks for the info. My wife bought me on right before the x3 was released and now she wants one.
We were begining to look at other brands but she really likes my ax5, so i've been checking e-bay for some good buys.
The only ones I've seen are going for close to or a little over the new prices.
We will just make a phone order.

I have the X5 because I use CF WiFi and my wife has the basic X3, whick was upgraded from a Sony Palm. The X5 is a bit larger, but the X3 screen seems brighter.

I found a refurb section on Dell's website where they had a few x5 listed. Just spent 10mins looking for it again and can't find it. I suspect they do not make it easy to find on purpose.

Anybody have the link?

Great product won't die, in Mexico we has been selling the famous VW bug for many, many years after been discontinued in all the world.

2 card slots +
reliable +
unbeatable price = Dell Axim 5.

the only thing that i think i am jealos of the x3 owners about is the faster graphics stuff, other than that, i think the x5 is a much better machine with the cf slot

Maybe this was a strategy to push sales of the X3 and X3i's. Rather than removing the X5 from the site, Dell could have easily updated the site to show a status of "Backordered due to popular demand".

No offense to the X3 faithful, but I was a lot happier when everything was strictly X5. Now it all seems kind of convoluted and even the design isn't as sleek as the X5 (IMNHO). Personally I think Dell dropped the ball with the X3 offering. They should have waited a little longer and put some muscle in a near identical case and called it, Um I don't know how bout the X7!

i like the look of the x3's but i also like the x5, which i have. Sometimes I feel huge in comparison with an IPaq user's pocket pc.. (ashamed) but it works fine, and IT HAS A CF SLOT!!! YAY FOR X5!

I wouldn't like an X5. LOL. It's WAAAAYYYYYYY too big and bulky.

Not to throw out doubt on this issue but I was just wondering if this info. was from a reliable source. The reason that I ask (and maybe my sales rep. was simply wrong) is that I tried to order an X5 advanced via phone a couple of weeks ago and was told that it was not available. I have seen a couple of other posts on aximsite.com that reflect the same.
