Extracted the cab file and it includes following files:

000setup.999
AUDIO1~2.000
H_WAVE~1.002
L_WAVE~1.001

Looks like compressed files. Anyways searched for the files using the first few characters and did not find any of them. Can those who have the patch installed see if you have any of the above files?

After some further checking it seems the file is WAVEDEV.DLL. Mine is 28160 bytes with 12/22/03 12:10PM. Can someone who did not yet install the patch verify their byte size and time stamp?

run audiopatch.exe to install via activesync or copy the cab file to the axim and run .cab from the axim

Serious problems after installing the updated driver --

My Axim's volume level is going very low at times. After a soft reset, everything is fine. If I open Microsoft Reader and then open an ebook, the screen clicks go away when I do a "Go to furthest Read". This doesn't happen every time.

A similar thing happened in NoteM -- recorded a memo then found the volume level at the lowest setting.

I can't find a specific sequence that triggers the problem.

Is anyone else having sound issues like this?

Audio Patch?

This patch does very little for improvement in some cases it makes it worse I tried on my newer X5 WM2003 A05 and it took some of the hiss out and that is it. Pretty sad really

Right. The point is, though, that there was one in PPC2002 (at least for me)... I think those of us that upgraded were hoping the patch would put it back.

I see some have reported they have no begin/end ActiveSync sounds. I do get the end, but no begin. Weird. Some more audio weirdness: I disabled the "Receive all incoming beams." Now, when enable it manually and link via IR, I get the "Begin ActiveSync" sound as soon as it establishes a connection - well before ActiveSync ever fires up - even though that sound (Infbeg) is associated with neither "Connection established" nor "Beam: autoreceive," only "ActiveSync: Begin sync." Screwy!

The patch eliminated the "hum" I used to hear when the unit was turned on. Seems good to me.

I, for one, was glad to get rid of the ActiveSync & reset chimes when I upgraded to WM2003.

Posted this last night but must have gotten deleted somehow??

I run WM2003 and x-5 adv. with PXA-255 rom ver. A05.
My original 'wavedev.dll' has a date of 7-17-03 @ 4:26am and a size of 27,648 bytes.
Hope this helps..
Not sure if I'll install patch on mine or not

I wonder if this fix came from the guy who had a piano tuning application that had problems when the X5 had rom A05. If I remember right, his problem was when the application was on and running and the axim shut off automatically. If so, I think the fix is not primarily fixing hiss or volume problems, but more of how the audio is handled during power off.

Thanks thats what I was looking for. So that is definitely the file that gets replaced. I tried to delete the file and it says it can't since its locked by another program or something to that effect. So that means the uninstall did not work.

Now does anyone know how to replace a system file? Is there a safe mode or something? Although I have a backup set, I don't feel like doing a hard reset if I don't have to.

I just installed the patch and don't notice any changes. My audio always worked OK for me even after upgrading to PPC2003. I quess I'm one of the lucky ones - never had any problems with my Axim X5
