X5 Audio

Updated Audio Driver for WM2003 X5's

Dell released this patch a couple days ago. You can get it on Dell's website or here.

I spoke with my PR rep at Dell today. She told me about a guy that got the ball rolling on this patch. He was not ugly, but persistant in telling Dell that there was a problem. He has an application that he or his company wrote that utilized audio. It worked great until WM2003 - "The sound system hang-up when my application is powered down began to occur exactly as with the Axims that had been delivered with A05. This is the first evidence that I have that the problem is likely related specifically to the ROM version and not to the hardware of those later X5's."

This just goes to show that Dell does listen to our needs. Keep the constructive advise and complaints up in the Tell Dell forum.

Fisrt BUMP!

So if I don't have a problem with my x5 do I still need the patch?
System: "Old" advance with 250 processor & WM2003 update

And the patch works really fine ;-) Much better sound performance on my x5 after installing it.

Didn't do a thing for me.

Since I "upgraded" *cough* to PPC 2003, I've had the following audio issues:
  • Humming sound w/Media Player
  • No "Begin Sync" sound with Active Sync (yes, it's enabled)
  • No "ding" sound after soft reset

Installed the patch, but the issues remain. I thought maybe I screwed up or it didn't take, but when I tried re-installing it said it already was installed. I said to go ahead anyway, but then the Axim told me "the new driver is older than the current one" or something like that, and it aborted. Oh well.

I wonder if this was from a single user or a rep of some company that had multiple units from Dell.

Well the patch did reduce the hiss a bit and improve audio performance a bit.. but I sure wouldn't mind a second patch that would do even more. :)

Thank you Dell! This is good.. but it still could be better :)

I'm confused, what does this patch actually address? I don't have an X5 anymore, but I see nothing in the readme addressing "audio performance".

I would say to those who never knew there was a problem, NOT install this "patch". Why mess with a good thing?

Where can I find this application that he or his company wrote that worked for 2002?

I'm also having the following sound issues with WM2K3:
No "Begin Sync" or "End Sync" sound with Active
No "ding" sound after soft reset.
The files are in the Axim but it's not playing them. Anyone else have this problem?

No active sync begin sound / end sound problems for me after the patch and it did improve the quality a little bit "I think" but the sound on these devices still seams sub par. My old Toshiba had much better sound, of course it required a hard reset about once a month just prior to any backup I was thinking of doing. Even with not so great sound I will take my X5 ANYDAY over either of the two Toshiba P.O.S. I used to own!!!

Installed the patch on my pxa250 and it seems like they reduced the volume range. I thought the loudest setting is lower than before the patch. So I unsinstalled the patch and reset but still same. So I tried to reinstall it again and now it says "The driver version is not newer than the system driver." Seems like the uninstall did not work. How do I remove this thing? This is what I get for rushing to install the latest/greatest. I knew I should have waited until more feedback.

I am getting the same message - it says I can't reinstall but I am not sure it is installed. Does anyone know what files are added/changed and where they are and the date? That would help us know if the patch was installed.
