WM 2003 SE

Hey, guys

I've been playing with the emulator for WM 2003 SE. I don't know about the alarm issue, but I do have to say the Landscape mode is pretty .

One odd thing is they changed where the recently used programs is located. It's usually at the top of the Start menu as a row of icons. Now (in portrait mode) it's in the middile of the Start menu and shows the icon and program name. In lanscape mode, the recently used programs show up in the usual spot.

There doesn't seem to be a way to directly change modes programatically in the .NET Compact Framework, so my guess is we'll have to P/Invoke the API (same for detecting the screen mode).

I do hope Dell releases an update for WM 2003 SE, as I'd love to have Landscape mode for Pocket IE as well as for my own programmed applications. :D

RE: WM 2003 SE Emulator

Check http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...r/default.mspx

It is the third item in the list under the Pocket PC Core Development Tools. Remember you will need Visual Studio.NET 2003 and the original WM 2003 Emulator to run the SDK. The SDK will not work on eVB. If you don't have VS.NET 2003, you can use eVC 4.0, which is linked on the same page, but you will not be able to program in the .NET Compact Framework.

The WM 2003 SE SDK is 54 megs, eVC 4.0 is 224 megs, and eVC 4.0 SP3 is just over 50 megs. The original WM 2003 SDK is 84 megs. Over 400 megs total. So if you're on dial-up...

RE: Dial-Up

Heh. I know exactly how you feel. We finally have DSL and Cable offered in our area and I can't afford either one. Fortunately I do have access to a T1 line at work... :D

OK GUYS I THINK YOU MISSED SOMETHING HERE

SEE THE LINK AND START PASSING OUT THE CRYING TISSUES

Dell
A spokesperson for Dell was completely straightforward about her company's plans: "Dell will deploy Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition in future Axim products. We have no plans at this time to offer Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition updates for current Axim X3 or Axim X5 products."

At least the possibility is there for them to change their minds. Maybe if there's enough outcry at the Dell Community forum? *heh*

LOL, you missed the post Chris put on our front page hours before Brighthand had it up. Aximsite had the news first (though I would have rather not heard about it).

I'm new to all this techno-babble - in fact this is my first post! I've only just purchased an x3 Performance, so I'm not that happy about possibly not getting the updated Windows Mobile... A lot has been said about it not really applying to Axims, as they haven't got a VGA screen (whatever that is!) but according to the Dell website, it's a QVGA screen! Please explain!

-=Doug=-

P.S. Sorry this was so long-winded!

VGA, has more pixels (480x640) so you can view more on the screen. Toshiba's e800 is an example of a PPC that has VGA. QVGA is the normal screen pixel size (240x320). Now the WM2003 software wasn't designed for a VGA Screen, so the SE edition makes it capable for a larger viewing screen IF you have a VGA screen.
