Greenlight Wireless releases free Web optimization portal for PDA and cell phone users
IRVINE, Calif., December 13, 2004—Greenlight Wireless Corporation today announced the release of a free version of its popular Skweezer portal, which optimizes Web pages, searches, and e-mail for use on PDA's and cell phones.
Mobile Internet users can access the free version of Skweezer by visiting www.skweezer.net from any wireless data-enabled handset. Skweezer is essentially a Web portal, such as Google or Yahoo!, that enables visitors to browse the Internet with Skweezer's optimization technology. This technology compresses and reformats Web content being downloaded to the user's device, so that it loads faster, looks better, and is easier to navigate. Since the Skweezer portal dramatically reduces a file's size before it's sent to the device, users who pay wireless data charges on a "per-kilobit" basis save money when they browse with Skweezer.
Skweezer users can personalize their service by creating a free Skweezer account, which provides the ability to save and import browsing favorites, access Plaxo contacts, and set up a customizable Skweezer Home Page. Skweezer Mail, Greenlight Wireless' popular mobile e-mail solution, is also included with a free personalized account. Skweezer Mail allows users to access an unlimited number of POP3 mail accounts and utilizes Skweezer's optimization technology, so messages have reduced file sizes and are faster to send and receive.
Skweezer Pro, a new "ad-free" service, includes unlimited e-mail customer support and is available for $14.99USD annually. All current Skweezer subscribers will automatically be upgraded to the new Skweezer Pro service. For more information about Skweezer and Skweezer Pro, please visit the Greenlight Wireless Web site at www.greenlightwireless.net.

This service is not all bad but has some limitations also. Example is Aximsite, it doen't handle it well. Of course you don't need them here as this site is already setup for mobile access. It also doesn't handle well sites with graphics links or in most cases, drop down menus. They say that they will eventually be able to translate almost any web site. Also of interest is www.mobileleap.net, which has a translation page (this site is in beta) that does a remarkably good job but has now way of saving any thing like Skweezer has. Mobile Leap also has a directory of mobile formatted web pages, not all but some unusual ones.

They pretty much corrected the drop down menu problem yesterday and hopefully the links problem will be solved this week.
It worked great for another forum I go to which doesn't have a mobile site yet.
Would it be safe to use this (instead of pure IE) to check my bank account? I know I might sound paranoid but I gotta know if it's safe
Up until yesterday, I couldn't access my bank but now can. A lot is going to depend on your banks web site, how much of it is graphic. Skweezer isn't crazy about graphics, works on some but not on others.
