I downloaded it at work (I have 2 partnerships; one at home and one at work) and it doesn't give me the option to set up two partnerships. It comes up during the setup that the device name is already in use. How do I get it to work like 3.7?

That's only 11 MB, not 11 GB :approve:

ActiveSync 3.8 is out - but what's new ???

Hmm, I just got AS3.8 from here, released 6 Jan 05
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

But I can't tell what's new - is this related to the posts I've been seeing on the Clinton Fitch .com site where he was asked to pull the content http://www.clintonfitch.com/rumors/default.asp ?

Cheers - Neil

okay, 11mb, thanks. But still can't install it. I turned off activesync before trying to install (red x in the icon) but I continue to get that stinkin' message!

You shouldn't need to setup the partnership again. The install will upgrade activesync and keep the existing partnerships.

BTW, my axim synced just fine after upgrading, but my smartphone showed up as new hardware when I connected it and then it synced just fine. Maybe the fix has to do with smartphone connectivity?

Worried Install Details

If you would like to see what has changed you can check out the following file on your PC:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcesetup.log" It will show you what files have been replaced. :approve:

Found this at Pocket PC Thoughts:

Straight from Microsoft: "ActiveSync 3.8 contains a set of security enhancements that provide a more secure syncing experience with a Windows PC, specifically:
  • Windows XP SP2 security pop up warnings that appear the first time a Windows Mobile devices is docked have been eliminated
  • Remote PC Sync (via Wifi or LAN) is turned off by default. However, users can turn this functionality back on."

I always had problems with Bluetooth Sync with 3.7.1 But in this version it works great. What was happening before was on startup it would say it couldn't communicate with the COM port. Now there is no messages, or errors just works.

From what I hear the above changes are it -- no unannounced tweaks. It's just a security update.

Thank you!

Well, I sure see an improvement. My Bluetooth sync was dropping randomly before, but now seems much more stable.

"ActiveSync 3.8 contains fixes making synchronization more trouble free than ever before"

So far I'd say that is a true statement for me!

Thank you for pointing out the new software!! I just love this site for this kind of information. :approve:

Best of luck!
