Okay, I just installed it and because it was HUGE (nearly 4MB) I took a chance and installed in in built-in storage. My assumption (apparently incorrectly) was that the active components would be loaded into RAM when SM was executed. Well, I had it play an MP3 and it was acceptable....until I turned on the digital EQ. Sheesh, the music slowed to half-speed. I have the X5 Advanced, with the processor set to Auto, so I figured it should operate pretty decently at 400Mhz. My next experiment will be to uninstall it and reinstall it into RAM and see if the performance is different.
It has an interesting live display of the frequency LEDs but they stop after about 6 seconds of playing. Since Nero doesn't provide support for the Beta, I went ahead and sent an e-mail with my feedback on the product and how it ran on my X5. I figure that's the only way it will improve.
It's great for playing iTunes AAC files. Unfortunately no new update - yet.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but do you mean that I can take an iTune song file and bring it to my Axim and play it if I was using Nero Mobile Showtime? I don't have an iPaq, but my wife does, and I'd love to play a couple of her songs on my PPC.
(Oh, and I don't have the Nero player yet, as my Nero came with my DVD drive and it's not a "full" version with the correct "type" of serial number.

Absolutely, as long as they're not protected AAC (iTunes Music Store purchases). You can also use BetaPlayer or TCPMP v0.66a or earlier (new versions have AAC support removed).
Also, according to a discussion on this site - link - it has support for the i2700g decoder, as well as several optimizations and improvements.
It's a pity I can't check it out as I don't own the full version of Nero. It looks quite impressive. Would someone with a Nero account be kind enough to see what it's like, and maybe send it to me?
Cheers. :)

Just to let you guys know, Beta 2 of ShowTime Mobile is out:
Thanks for the heads-up. Unfortunately, it appears registered users who downloaded beta1 can't download beta2 with the same serial number. Sucks!! I emailed Nero tech support about the problem.

That's apparently the way to do it. If you take a look at the hydrogenaudio thread, someone else had the same problem and was told to email tech support.
Let us know how you get on! :D

Okay, I finally have Beta2 downloaded and installed. Here's the results of some testing.
Nothing has changed in the UI between betas. I found the Playlist options a bit confusing. It needs an "Open File" option rather than scanning through all the files on my Axim before I can add media. ASP and AVC movies encoded with Recode2 (500MB size encoded at 400kbps video VBR, 96kbps 48kHz stereo audio) play back much better than Beta1 but are still sluggish when played from a CF card. No Intel 2700G graphic chipset support yet but appearently it's in the works. For comparison, the same ASP movies play smooth in TCPMP 0.66 from a CF card (AVC not supported yet).
Still no way to save custom EQ settings. Still no way to browse or add media on network shares. They fixed the playback pause problem when the player is minimized. No option to use system volume. It doesn't have customizable hotkeys, file associations, and advanced settings like TCPMP but overall a good improvement from Beta1. I'll keep using TCPMP (although it looks like TCPMP has dropped AAC support in the latest builds).
Has anyone tried the UPnP feature of Showtime Mobile.
You need to install a UPnP Media Server; Nero MediaHome, Windows Media Connect, TwonkyVision or the like, on the PC with your media on it.
It sounds like you should be able to browse the media on one of the above UPnP servers and have it "stream" the audio/video to my WiFi enabled Axim. This would make my hard drive full of TV recordings much more accessable.
If anyone get the chance to try it out let me know. I know Rudeo will stream audio to the Axim, but I'm looking for Video.
Thanks,
Dave
BTW here's a link to a UPnP media server forum if anyones interested. (I prefer Twonky myself)
Is there any way to download this beta if you don't have the full versions of Nero?
I own Nero 6 SE, which is the version that came with my DVD burner last year (Sony). The software is great, and I use it all the time. But, I have no need to buy the newer or fuller version, since the one I have is quite feature-rich and works great. But, since I've been saving my media as .mp4s, I am limited in player options. (I use TCPMP, but would love to try the Nero, too.) I volunteered to be a beta tester, but they didn't take me up on the offer.

did you try just looking under downloads>latest updates when you log in to nero?
Since I own Nero 6, I could download the latest free showtime mobile (BETA 3-1.0.1.4, released: September 22nd, 2005). its free but they want you to have nero 6 before you can download.. so I don't know if I can post a link here. If the mods give me the nod then I can share it with you guys.
UPDATE: mann.. I'm really loving this! with nero mediaHome, network detection is instant. Audio and video (fullscreen landscape/portrait available) streaming from remote computer is MUCH better than that of Orb and totally hassle free!
