I am sure there is going to be a key specific to the CD purchased.

I'm sure I would upgrade. Glad I bought the X50v even more now. I always felt like WM2003SE was not taking full advantage of the hardware.

I think $25-$30 would be a fair price. Much better than having to buy a new piece of hardware. :)

What exactly is important in this OS upgrade to users? What doesn't the X50 do now that this OS upgrade will acomplish?

I know nobody likes a smart arse :)

But I told you so! :) :approve:

Sorry that's all i've got to say about that.

Except ..... 30-40 ($) Mid Sept release. ;)

Possibly a download purchase? Less likely to be on a CD easier to track and trace any warez copies.

No more to say sorry

I know someone replied saying they will use unique CD keys, but the only way for that to work is if the implement some sort of product activation through Dell.

My guess is that you will be able to upgrade both from the same CD, but it's about as ethical as downloading the thing off P2P.

Although Dell will have the WM2005 upgrade available for existing users by 3rd quarter this year. Does anyone have any previous experience of when they will start introducing the new X50v with the WM2005 already uploaded?

Among the new features announced are, with comments on its use on x50v:

# New mobile versions of Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile Viewer, and Excel Mobile.

We already have Word and Excel, sure Powerpoint is good to have but Id say its use is limited and if you really need it you can get a Powerpoint application for WM2K3.

# Improved one-handed navigation so you don’t have to use a stylus.

This is great, however, will Dell incorporate it? Do we need extra buttons like a Windows-button on the PC-keyboards?

# A new camera API that’ll make it easier for developers to write apps that use a device’s built-in camera.

Great, but not for x50v users, we dont have built in cameras.

# ActiveSync 4.0.

Should work with WM2K3.

# Better WiFi support for Smartphones.

Not a smartphone.

# Support for push-to-talk and video calling.

Sounds like smartphone stuff.

# Improved Bluetooth (e.g. ability to use ActiveSync over Bluetooth with multiple PCs).

Great!

# Support for “persistent memory,” which means that you won’t lose all your data when your battery dies (a feature the Treo 650 and several other Palms already have).

Hardware feature not in x50v, right?

# support for USB 2.0 AND support for interal hard drives. Not support for USB 2.0 for connecting external hard drives

x60v dont have an internal hard drive but 2.0, yay, but wasnt that an active sync limitation?

yeah, but they left the X30 users out in the cold. Hardware could handle it, they should offer it up.

I am still using an x30h, but I have been eyeballing the x50v. My wife wants an axim, so I figure she'll be okay with my x30h since she will just use it as an address book, calender and a word processor.

I would probably pay $30. I'd have to wait and see if it is worth it though. Since I use my x30 a lot for Word processing, spreadsheets, and web browsing, I would be pretty interested in the x50v with WM5 because of the new Mobile Office suite, and PIE. Then again, by the time WM5 is available, Minimo 1.0 might be ready, and OpenOffice might have a mobile version. Okay, so the OpenOffice part is highly unlikely, but I have hope for Minimo.

I'm sure it'll be around 30 US. If it's worth it, I'd do it.

From what I saw in Bills keynote there are some new features supporting GPS, allowing different apps to use GPS data at the same time, which interests me.

Hope HP has learned something from this, but I do hate to say it I hope Dell does not change their mind later down the road.
Not sure what you mean...but HP is also putting out WM5 for those with the "hx" line of PDA's.
