Free NewsBreak Lite RSS feed reader for Pocket PC and Smartphone
Geekzone and Ilium Software teamed to provide an incredible offer: a free NewsBreak Lite RSS feed reader for your Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphone.
RSS is a technology that allows web site publishers to make their content available through a syndicated “feed” that users can elect to receive. Users can then view the feed with the help of a RSS feed reader, like NewsBreak Lite. Using RSS, users can receive the most up-to-date information, delivered to them in their RSS reader.
NewsBreak Lite looks and works exactly like NewsBreak, with a limit of five RSS feeds in total. But it is free for you to download and use on your Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphone.
NewsBreak Lite will alert you when headlines match your keywords. You can use NewsBreak with a wireless connection, or with ActiveSync passthrough at your desk. When you have a wireless service or a Wi-Fi hotspot, use it for mobile updates. When you don't, get your updates and info at your desk, and read them anywhere.
Visit the Newsbreak Lite download page now to download your free software. Both PC setup or CAB file for direct installation on your Windows Mobile device are available.
Update: Loaded on my X50v in BIS with no problems. Works in landscape mode. Not sure of the advantage of this over Avantgo. Any enlightenment would be helpful. hn :approve:

i noticed both of those - but for free, i am not complaining. i just don't see the advantage of an rss news service over avantgo UNLESS and this could be the kicker, you are not near your home network to sync.

For me, the advantage is that I can keep up with many more news sources than I could with Avantgo--or, at least without downloading lots of news I don't care about. Some of the readers (PocketRSS, for instance) allow you to download extended feeds, which will show more content like Avantgo. But, for scanning LOTS of feeds and sources and stories, I'm addicted to RSS.
I also hate the new version of Avantgo. It never really worked as well or as fast as the old one did, and I just dumped it and was using MobiPocket for some Avantgo-like news and web pages.
I'm now really into RSS, though. But, the problem with most of the RSS readers (which is also a virtue as it makes downloading multiple feeds faster) is that you really need to be near an internet source in case you want to read the rest of the article/page.
I'm currently using (and own) PocketRSS, Egress, and the full version of NewsBreak. None is perfect for me, but all are really good. I think NewsBreak is the most stable and simple of the bunch. If only it had PocketRSS's today-screen plugin it would be perfect for me. (I also have all installed on my SD card without real problems.
All in all, I think this mini-version is a great way to encourage people to try RSS on their PPC's if they haven't already done so.
that's what i did and i wasn't really interested with the rss feed on my computer , since i just have to launch bookmarks to bring up the news site i want or else.
but on the pocket pc , i've been trying for about one hour , and that's so much faster to access news you want!
i can check headlines, geek news on some tech sites, friend's blog in a couple of clicks and only open what i need.

I sync w/avantgo via wireless all the time via hotspots. U don't have to be at your home network
Avantgo is a good program except it seem to screw up my SD Card. To get around this I put it in my BS and then it goes very very very slow. Of course it would take too much memory in the main memory so I am very disappointed with it and decide to give this new RSS read a check out. SO far I like it. It a shame that you can only have 5 channels on the freebee.

No limit of channels ( 5 channels !!! Too less for me !)
Sync without a certain version of ActiveSync :activesyn
What is the use of RSS feed ????? For us, small foreigners, it's easier to create a XML file in a website to provide rss feed, than create the AvantGo channel procedure...
I use it daily for :
Weather feed, What is on TV ?, and many newspapers... (ecologic, economic, sociologic... and many words in IC !!! )

Can anyone explain what Avantgo does? I've looked at the website so many times, but it never explains exactly what you can get on it. Does it use .xml feeds or can you only see news it wants you to see? (One of my accounting organisations provides an rss feed, but it probably wouldn't be popular enough).
I've been looking at an rss thingy, so this one might just be the ticket. Is there any reader that will download the full message rather than just the headlines, so I can read it in my non-hotspotted cafe while getting my morning caffeine fix?
Thanks.

Well, it depends on feed providers !
Some only provides headlines, but some others put a detailed article in the display... And if you want to stay offline while :coffeedri , don't click on the underlined text ! ;)
