Safe Mode for PocketPC

I was looking for something interesting to post and ran across Safe Mode first over at Pocket PC Thoughts and did a search on Aximsite and discovered a thread had been started. The developer is posting here . It might save you a hard reset. It is freeware, so . . . . I have not installed it on my unit yet. But . . . it might fill a niche for you! :)

From the developer:
"I've developed this program because many times, after I installed some programs, my PocketPC froze or kept soft-rebooting. This way I don't need to hard-reset my PDA when that happens."

For more info, click on over to the .::monocube:. web site.

No need to apologize! I really should have sent you a PM first, since this item is perfect for the front page news section.

Did the trick

I was just having trouble uninstalling eXperience (which was causing my axim to hang)... the uninstall itself never went anywhere, just the spinning wheel, had to reset several times.

Loaded soft reset, then was able to uninstall eXperience on the first try.

worked nice, and it's small too. :)

i emailed the developer about it - and yes, there are great plans for this project of his...

right now, it only disables Today plugins and Startup apps...

so i have suggested that he also includes non-default services, and replied that it was already in his ToDo list... cool!!!

------

as for my personal opinion, i know that many of us have been burned by endless loops of soft-resets, hard resets, etc. and i believe that this program should actually be part of the OS (much Spb PocketPlus). in this regard, i was wondering if we could help the author by donating?

* just my 100 yen (approximately US$1.00) worth *

PS: what i mean by non-default services/processes are programs that are NOT PART of a PPC coming from a hard reset (much like SAFE MODE wherein only the bare essential processes are present)

Will it be able to differentiate between original system processes and ones added afterward? I could see how it could do this if loaded first after a hard reset (It could establish a list of valid processes at this time) but I am not sure it could if installed on top of a hundred odd programs. I'm no expert so this is a question more than a comment.

axim_wannabe, yes I remember you :)

but I've already released v0.5, which also disables Services ;)
Today I'm working on 0.6, hopefully I'll be able to fix the password/"my info" issue, and disable 3rd party SIP plugins.

A1: uninstall it by going to Settings -> System -> Remove Programs.
A2: copy the SafeMode cab file on your PDA, then open File Explorer and tap on it to install. Read the included help file that shows up when installing SafeMode.
