After determining that we are running too much CPU and utilizing 85% or more almost continuously, We have decided to move up to a 2gig P4 with 512mb RAM. If we are still not running faster than a Yugo, then roll out another 512mb RAM. One way or the other we will get this site back to its fast days....
This move should be 100% Transparent to 99% of you. The hosting company has just ordered 30 more servers from DELL no less... hehe. 1st p4 2gig through the doors is ours. We may lose 10 or so signups and maybe a few minutes worth of posts, but hey... Isn't it worth it?

Glad to hear you've made the decision on the upgrade. I haven't noticed much of a problem until the last several days, as there have been times where I cannot even get on the site. Hope this isn't gonna break your bank account too much for the upgrade. Good luck!
:)
just wondering what the specs are on the site. I am running a dual processor 1 Ghz processor with freebsd connected on a t1. I dont get nearly the hits that you guys do but it seems to be able to handle the load fairly well. The only time I have a problem is when the whole pipe is getting DoS'd and at that point theres not much anyone can do.

Just out of curiosity, what type of site are you running? Forums like this (PHP, mySQL, etc.) are usually hog up a lot more of the server than do just plain HTML sites. Couple that with 150+ users at a given time and you get a full load! :)

Yep, gotta love the good servers some places have! I've got an account on the Oracle Server here at UA, and that thing blows my PC away in terms of processing time!!
