gave it a quick whirl.. but.. I just don't get it. I mean.. you guess what numbers should go in the box next.. and then it tells you if you are right or wrong.. if wrong.. just change it to a new number? Perhaps someone that plays these puzzles could explain. Thx!

We'll let SuDoku Addicts answer that one ! SuDoku is the Japanese equivalent of a crossword. Over here in the UK whole trains and busses are crammed full of people solving their SuDokus. It has gone quite crazy to say the least, with every newspaper now having at least one. We didn't really design this software but left it to the players themselves. I think it will hit the USA in due course :approve:
Take a look at http://www.sudoku.com . Very simply, fill in the squars so that every column, every row and every box contains the numbers 1-9, and them only once.

It's one of those puzzles that grow on you. You have to enter combos of numbers to complete the puzzle, sounded simple but will drive you crazy after a bit....in a good way. :approve:

It's all explained in the help but there's only one thing you need to know - "Simply fill the grid with the numbers 1 to 9 so that each column, row and 3x3 box contains each number once and only once."
That's all there is to it but you need to use your brain power as each puzzle only has one solution.
Mastersoft SuDoku is without a doubt the best implementation of this puzzle on a Pocket PC and it will save you a fortune on pencils and erasers.
As an American, I've only been playing SuDoku for the past couple of days and only started when I found out about the Pocket PC version. It's a blast. It is a puzzle that reminds me a lot of a number version of scrabble. Yes at first it does seem simple but your mind eventually starts coming up with different combos and before you know it you've dug yourself into a numbers hole
The program saves your progress when you exit which is nice.
Has anyone figured out the timer yet? It counts down even though you make good moves (I think) then it eventually gets to zero - but the game continues.
I will definately register as soon as I can break away from the game long enough to fill out the order form

Beginners should definitely have a look at the website mentioned above. As well as explaining what it's all about there's a 'How to solve' page which takes you through the techniques you can use.
It's extremely addictive. Here in the UK every newspaper has a SuDoku alongside the crosswords now. If it hasn't hit the USA yet it soon will. The beauty is that you don't need any mathematical skills to solve them - just logic.
The timer shows you how long it's taken you to solve the puzzle. It's great to be able to boast to your friends that you solved a 'very hard' SuDoku in under 10 minutes say and is a good way of measuring your own progress. You can pause the timer if you want to break off and do something else.
There is also a score which counts down as time goes by. This score is reduced further if you ask for hints or check for mistakes and may count down to zero if you ask for too many. The score you get for solving a SuDoku is added to your total which determines your rank. Even if the score has counted down to zero you may still want to complete the puzzle for your own satisfaction. Don't worry, after solving a few puzzles you will become more proficient, won't need so much help and you won't get many zero scores.
I've been playing with this for a couple of weeks now and I think the Pocket PC and SuDuko make a perfect marriage. A book of SuDoku puzzles has been the number one best seller in the UK for months now but with 1 million built in puzzles the Mastersoft program means I won't need to buy any more books for a while.
I cannot find mastersoft sodoku on www.ipaqchoice.com.
Another question - when I'm trying to register, there are no Canada in country list - is the site for Europe only?

Hello,
It should be there within the next couple of days. I'm sorry I don't know if Canada is included. I think it is just Europe but I could be wrong.

A few days ago, I have seen a lot of sudoku books being sold in a bookstore in the Heathrow airport, London. Sudoku is basically equivalent to a bunch of n-queen problem, which is np-complete.
Since it is an np-complete problem, there is no algorithm that can solve this problem, so you can solve this problem only by heuristics, which all the books and tv shows in UK are about.
I don't understand why uk people are so much crazy about this stupid problem. There are whole lots of other np-complete problems out there.
Unfortunately, this software does not work well in true VGA mode. You only get one fourth of the screen making it very difficult to play.
Support seems a little bit odd, too: I posted a question on their forum yesterday to know if true VGA support was possible through some hack. I went back to the site today, and they simply deleted my post, so I guess the answer is no...
If you like the game, take time to take a look at the other products available.
