This is one I have had a hard time waiting on. No, not a Mobility Post, but one that affects most of us anyhow.
For what seems like years, the Longhorn buzz can be heard everywhere. Even my 3 year old knows what Longhorn is. (or maybe he doesn't)
At last, Microsoft announce the name of its new and upcoming OS - Windows Vista!
Bringing clarity to your world. Today we live in a world of more information, more ways to communicate, more things to do. There is more you can do and even more you can discover. Every day, millions of people around the globe rely on their Windows PC to manage their increasingly digital lives. While familiar tools for managing digital information are powerful, today's world requires more. In today's digital world, you want the PC to adapt to you, so you can cut through the clutter and focus on what's important to you.
Introducing Windows Vista™ It enables a new level of confidence in your PC and in your ability to get the most out of it. It introduces clear ways to organize and use information the way you want to use it. It seamlessly connects you to information, people, and devices that help you get the most out of life.

I'm not too keen on the name Vista but I guess it'll do. I actually liked the name Longhorn better but I realize that they can't keep it that name. Good deal. I'm sure I will get this when it comes out or when they iron *some* of the bugs out.
Vista vista ... no .. .doesnt click ... nop, dont like it

however, are the rumors true that the systems that the new operating system will be running on need to be more complex and have new hardware components to use the OS?

Vista, what kind of a name is that anyways. I prefer Longhorn. As for getting this new os, hell, i'm quite comfortable with xp pro. I'll give it sometime to catch the bugs before i even give it a thought of upgrading.
Ecks

We would, wouldn't we? ;-) Stereotyped Texan's would like Longhorn better. I personally liked that project name, fitting a little bit of stereotyping, but can live with "Vista". I just want to see what it looks and runs like. My dad's been playing with it a little for a little while now, he said it's, well, "Windows".

What does the name matter as long as it does thing as advertised and is an improvement to the current OS?
I am beta testing this soon, depending on my NDA, I will keep folks updated here.
