Spb Software House Releases The Free Plug-Ins and Icon Set for Spb Pocket Plus

Free is always good and the ToPlay plug-in is really cool! Read on! - hn :approve:

July 26, 2005 - Spb Software House releases an additional icon set and two new Tab plug-ins for Spb Pocket Plus. All of them are free downloads for all registered Spb Pocket Plus 3.0 users.

Tab plug-ins extend existing Spb Pocket Plus Today functionality with additional Tabs. This helps you place more information on your Today screen and organize it in a convenient way, so that you have fast easy access to your most important information. The following Spb Pocket Plus plug-ins are available:
  • Weather forecast
  • Calendar
  • Tasks
  • Contacts
  • Notes
  • Finance information
  • Network traffic monitoring
Now you can add: the Spb Folder Tab for fast access and editing of your most frequently used documents; and Spb ToPlay, a Tab to control your music playback with Windows Media Player 10.

Spb Today Folder
Spb Today Folder is a Today plug-in that helps you work with documents from your Today screen. Spb Today Folder shows documents from a folder of your choice including options to choose the number of columns and rows, whether or not to show the file size, etc. It also supports file operations like renaming and deleting right from the Today screen.

You can insert the Spb Today Folder plug-in as a tab in the Spb Pocket Plus Today screen. This way, it will not take up space on the Today screen. But, at the same time, you can easily access all your most important documents in just one-two taps.

Spb ToPlay
Spb ToPlay is a simple Today Plug-in for controlling music playback in Windows Media Player 10. With the help of this plug-in you can easily switch to the next track, view the currently playing track, control volume, etc.

Spb ToPlay is skinnable and supports small and large icons.

Extended IconSet
The icons used to show items on the Spb Pocket Plus Today plug-in are customizable. Users can assign one of 64 standard icons to any program or document. The Extended IconSet provides additional icons that can be assigned to various programs and documents on the Today screen.

You can download the free plug-ins here.

Pricing and Availability
Spb Pocket Plus 3.0 will be available in English, German, Italian, Spanish, French, and Russian upon release. A free 15-day trial can be downloaded, or Spb Pocket Plus can be purchased for $24.95 USD, from www.spbsoftwarehouse.com. Owners of Spb Pocket Plus 2.x can upgrade for $9.95 USD. Further details about the upgrade process are available at the Spb Software House Web site.

I tried ToPlay back when PocketPlus 3 was first announced, and it didn't seem to actually control WMP10 at all... It seemed more like a stand-alone player on the Today screen that's totally oblivious to WMP.

In fact, I had a copy of WMP open playing one song, and ToPlay was playing a totally different song at the same time (at different volumes too). On top of that ToPlay seems to default to the All Songs playlist and there's no way to change it.

Is that how it's supposed to behave? From the description it sounds like it should be more of a remote control to a running instance of WMP, not a separate media player altogether...

Maybe I'm just being a bit dense, but where might I find the extended icon set?

I've gone over their sight a couple of times now and see no mention of the extended icon set, just extended themes...

Thanks

Not the most intuitively placed location for it, took me a minute to see it when I followed the link.

What makes this news and what makes it FrontPage news?
The free Plugins were available the same day that version 3 was released.
The only thing "new" is the icons.
Is that really Front Page news?

I've installed SPB Folder, which is great by the way, but when I try to install the iconset it gives me an error message saying that "it has to be installed in the same folder as SPB PocketPLus", which is exactly what I'm doing...
On another note... has anyone the registry settings for OzVGA and PocketPlus 3? (yeah, I know I've already asked, but I'm going crazy with this :) )

Icon-not Find The Icons

I installed the free icons (or so my computer told me I did), but when I go into Spb PPC+ to use them, I can't find them. They're not in the 2 places Spb has them. Anyone else having trouble finding them?

The folder plug-in is great, but the media player does need some improvement. I would like to see the ability to scroll down through a song list. It is a grind to tap the next button over and over again to get to a song at the very end of a playlist. However, the WMP 10 plug-in is great for shuffle playback of your playlist (just make sure to put WMP 10 in "random" mode, exit WMP 10, and use the plug-in [tell it to stop to refresh the settings if need be too]).
