Index.dat Viewer from ValkSoft

Found this interesting piece of freeware. The claim that no other software does this caught my attention . . . I thought MemMaid by DinarSoft handled this, but I am not sure. This is freeware, so use with caution. :)

From their website:
What Index.dat files are

According to Microsoft, "Index.dat files are binary files that Internet Explorer uses to save information about URLs. They are basically hash tables that have been optimized to be very fast when dealing with URLs. Given an URL, these files map the URL to a binary blob of data. The binary blob of data is different, depending on what the particular Index.dat file is used for. Index.dat files are for IE's internal usage only. They are not designed or tested to be used by others". There are three kinds of Index.dat files, all of them having the similar structure but storing different kinds of information.

You can check out ValkSoft here.

It would be interesting to see if anything is there after soft reseting with Memaid...

I don't think memaid touches this file. On the PC you can get software like evidence eliminator that securely empties/erases this hidden file in IE, but I'm sure memaid doesn't do that yet.

Take care. I installed this software on X50v, ran it and did a soft re-set. Result, device would not boot and a hard re-set was required (from back-up of course). To be fair, there are caveats about using it on the Valksoft web-site.

I had the same problem with the new version of Space Reclaimer 2.1 (a great program from the same developer) when I tried to utilize this feature. (I'm sure it's the same program).
