I am pretty sure that the adapter provides a mono mic connection. Besides the ground, it has 3 conductors, so it would pretty much have to be.
What I don't know, though, and haven't been able to figure out, iks whether the jack on the axim itself is for only mono microphones or if it could handle a stereo microphone. I want to know because I'm considering getting a camcorder microphone, all of which I've seen are stereo. If anyone figures this out, I would love to hear about it.

edit: Just an FYI, I bought the dual adapter from Seidio recently and had a lot of trouble. First off, the shipping is pretty expensive, so you end up paying almost $20 for the thing. Then there was some weird shipping error. They kept referring me to a tracking number, but when I put the tracking number into the computer it clearly indicated that the package had not yet been shipped. It took many e-mails and even a visit to each of the post offices in my town before the Seidio rep was convinced that I hadn't received the package and they sent it to me. I think the whole process was about 2 months. If the same adapter is available elsewhere for a dollar more, I suggest going there.

I have a stereo mic I could just plug into the Axim jack to tes if you'd like. The problem is that I am not sure how to definitively confirm that it is a stereo vs. mono recording.

Not necessarily. WinAmp will report a dual-mono track as stereo simply because there is audio on both the L and R channels.

Hey Gigi, this should be easy. Set it up with different sounds close to each mic element. I don't know what brand of mic you have, but if it's really a stereo mic, it will have two elements, probably on opposite sides of each other.

Putting a crying baby on one side of the mic and a phone ringing on the other side of the mic should make it pretty obvious when you listen back. If both the right ear and left ear sound exactly the same, then it's just mono.

And like RevMen posted earlier, since the plug has only 3 connections, it's hard to imagine how it could record in stereo.

The other way to test is simpler, but works best if you have a mic like this:

which has been slow for me today.
If you don't see the pic, click on
it or hit refresh or something.
It's there.

With a mic like that, just scratch your finger on the grill of the right element, then do the left, then the right, then the left. When you listen through your headphones, you should clearly know if it's stereo because the scratching noise will move from one ear to the other.

Is the crying baby normally included with the microphone or can that be obtained from Radio Shack?

new2axim, I have a mic very similar to that one (a Sony too), so the test shouldn't be too difficult. I'll have to use the scratchy fingernail test unless someone wants to lend me their crying baby (just for a few minutes though - no free babysitting!) :p

stereo recording

I found another thread on this site that claims true stereo recording is not possible with the setup discussed in this thread. But there is CF hardware out there that will get the job done...mostly for true stereophiles:

Ok, I just did some testing with a stereo mic plugged directly into the Axim jack. The result: It doesn't work AT ALL and the built-in mic is what is used to record instead. Also, any recording done with the adapters, regardless of whether you use a stereo or mono mic, ends up being mono.
