try a soft reset maybe it just got stupid on ya. Also check to see how much stuff you got ope maybe you have too much and overloading the processor. And last but least try to open a different file maybe what you are opening is corrupted

wildcat has probably covered it.

Windows Media Player, like the rest of the operating system, is on the ROM. Any problems you encounter should not be WMP's fault, but due to other external circumstances.

I just noticed it works perfectly without my WLAN card inserted.

I was having problems with Media Player this morning and ended up having to do a hard reset. For some reason, the Player disappeared from the Programs menu but I just discovered it this morning when trying to use the Media Player after a week or so of not using it.
After messing around with it trying to figure out what it was, I was not able to dectect what was causing the problem until I did a hard reset.
It turns out that an application I recently upgraded must have had some sort of corrupt file(s) and it was wiping out the Media Player.
After the hard reset, I chose to reinstall all apps manually and that's when I discovered which application was causing the problem. Granted, it was the long way to go about this but, at least I have my answer. So much for the upgrade on that one application but, I don't need it that badly if it's going to cause problems like this. I'd rather have the Media Player :)

Thanks wildcat for your ideas...this is where I started my journey this morning trying to figure out what was wrong!

I've had that problem from time to time. Someone mentioned that it doesn't do it if the WLAN card is plugged in.

I think sometimes when I start it up, it is going out and trying to build a playlist, including looking in my networked folders (which contain about 4000 mp3 files).

To get around this, you can create a shortcut to the file wm_start in the windows folder, and use this shortcut to launch WMP. It should start right up (and play the welcome video), just like it does when you go to www.ppcvides.com
