Napters and WMP10 - (Formally MP3 files)

My AXIM 5 finally died. I just ordered a new AXIM 51v. My old AXIM didn't have the license installed to download(legally) music off of the internet, and then play them on my unit. I was told by the Dell sales person, the my new unit will have this license. I know their "Jukeboxes" have the license, but couldn't find it listed in any of the specs. Does anybody know?
Thanks
Rolie

MP3 files don't have DRM.

Can you be a bit clearer about what you're trying to do?

And first post, welcome along.

Howard, thanks for your reply. When I've tried to download music(legally). in the past to my old AXIM 5, I got an error message that the unit didn't have the license to play the song. I could transfer it, but it wouldn't play. Upon investigation, I find there are units compatable with this procedure. The Dell Jukeboxes ARE. I was told by a Dell sales rep, that there x51v that I ordered did. However, I'm not sure she just wasn't trying to sell a Dell.
Thanks
Rolie

Ah ok.

The number one question is where are you getting the content from? The iTunes Music Store used protected AAC files so they are not natively playable on the Axim. Yahoo uses either a download or subscription based WMA service. So I believe there is SOME support for those files.

Let us know where the files are coming from and someone here will have experience and be able to confirm :)

I was specifically talking about Napstar, but will use any service that will transfer TO and play ON the x51v. Also I think I want mp3 format because of file size. Am I thinking down the wrong path? I'm not real smart on these things. All I know is that for years, I've transferred mp3 files from musicmatch on my computer to my AXIM 5. All of o sudden it won't let me play the new CD's I buy, or music I purchase online. I'm probably doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

ok - I'll update your thread title to reflect the subject a little more clearly. I believe you're ok with WMP10 for downloaded purchased WMA content, but I'm not sure about "rental" content.

MP3 files don't have any DRM so I'm not sure of any 100% legit site that sells "big label" music in that format.

I am also experiencing the same problem. I have an Axim X30I, and would like to play the mp3's I have put into my musicmatch. When I put these files on my sd card the axim doesn't see them. I have been unable to figure out why. Any help with this would be great!!!

rkirkho1;
I had this down to somewhat of a fine art upuntil recently. I would click on the mobile device, wait until it reconized the unit( this could take up to 2full minutes). I would highlite about 6 files in the playlist window, and drag them into the main memory(not a card). I would then highlite them in the axim, copy & them paste them into which card(SD or CF) I wanted them in, and then delete them from my main memory. This was slow & laborius, but it worked. Try it & see if it works for you. You can respond at Rolierock@AOL.com if you need more details

WMP10 and Napster to Go

I use Napster to go w/ my V50 and it works very well. I share a subscription with my son and his Dell DJ, I haven't used yahoo's rental service (just increased their price yesterday)...but Napster works well. Good Luck
