Mpeg4 Video Distorted

I am just starting to get more use out of my x50v. I downloaded some really great movie that rhymes with Par Fours (only it has a lot of cosmic conflict in it) to my 4GB Hitachi microdrive, installed TCPMP with all the associated codecs, but the video won't play properly. The video is very distorted when I hit play. All stills (individual frames) look great if I time search without hitting play. Maybe I have some setting messed up. Anyone know how to fix this?

Cheers,
Max

Do you get an error message saying "Qpel not supported!" or "GMC not supported!" If so, you're probably going to have to re-encode. This isn't an x50v specific problem so you should probably search in the Multimedia forum for answers. Oh yeah, you shouldn't tell people about what you download either >_>

I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He _did_ say he was downloading the movie to the microdrive, not from the net or anything naughty like that. :)

I don't get any error messages, just very distorted images. I keep thinking I have one of my settings messed up. If I hit pause, then take the time-search bar and move it, I can see perfect images...even on full screen. It is when I hit play that the image goes distorted. The audio works fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Max

BTW, I made the necessary adjustments to my previous post...thanks. :)

Well the 0.70 version just released has improved MPEG4 playback as one of it's features. Give that a shot. Also try clicking on Options > Settings > Select Page > Player then check Microdrive Mode if that doesn't improve it try doubling the microdrive buffer size.

Maybe you switched to 'low quality' in options/video menu.

Bobby, thanks. I tried your suggestions without success. I'll have to try the new version, I still think I'm a step or two away from making this thing work.

picard_beta- I don't see that option under options/video. Maybe we are looking at different versions?

Has anyone else had choppy playback on TCPMP?

Ok. Never mind, it's a new option in 0.70

Just for testing you could install the ffmpeg plugin and temporary remove the mpeg4.plg file from TCPMP's directory. Maybe some mpeg4 feature not supported and not even detected (no error message) by mpeg4.plg. But ffmpeg will be probably too slow for normal playback.

Btw is it choppy (like slow with dropped frames) or distorted?
