Streaming audio headache.

Hya, got a problem with the billions (ok, maybe just millions) of different formats of streaming audio out there and the vey limited capabilities of pocket ie. Basically, only GSplayer and shoutcast playfiles work seamlessly, and even then, not directly from explorer but only if I save the file from Shoutcast and *then* open it from GSPlayer.

Now, my question is: is it only me having trouble or is there a simple way to play links like: http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/webbradio/c...namn=p3-wm-Low

,on a pocket pc? I tried and tried, but if I tap this link directly from pocket ie, it opens windows media player and then gives me the dreaded "class not registered" message. It seems like no one has yet come up with either a player that can handle most formats or a standard of sending those bloody formats so that everyone can focus on content and not packaging.

So if anyone can get this link to work let me know since there are a bunch of other similar ones that so far only work on a regular computer.

Thanks for letting me vent some..
Stephan

For that particular link, you could try mms://sr-wm.qbrick.com/02038_p3-wm-low

Thanks for the help. It actually works and I'm a step closer to getting what I want out of a pocket pc.

Now I have to find out why an audio link for windows media player from Radio Canada will not play on pocket media player, and will even cause pocket IE to crash. It's the same problem everytime, actually.

Maybe someone from Microsoft wants to answer as to why you can't paste in an URL into the "open url" slot in Windows media player and have to write it in manually everytime. And why you can't create a simple playlist from the file that's now playing in the media player.

Have you ever succeeded in playing streaming video from a web tv channel?

What's the link to Radio Canada's player?
I think I've tried to stream BBC News 24 on WMP, and it was working fine.

Nah, nothing personal.
Just that I've seen a lot of those on these particular boards, for some strange reason.

You can use Ctl+v to paste the url. You don't have to type. The only problem now is that you don't have the Open Url menu in wmp with wm5.0. You have to go through library...

Exactly, and if I can't even make a simple library from the file that's playing, and have nothing but problems creating a library (anyway, too much trouble to make it worth my while sticking to wmp if I can help it) that will work and not be effed up when I synchronize with my desktop, etc, etc.. sorry to say I bought the pda so it would be somewhat more toned down and simple but it turns out that half the time I have to do cartwheels to even cut and paste a simple url.

I'll wait and with time and a growing user pool Microlimp will be forced to develop better apps, I'm might be going to the Palm side with my next pda since from what I've seen in friend's Tungsten, it was much smoother going and easier.

I solved the problem. I erased everything and did a hard reboot. Seems that the original wmp is much more adaptable than the upgrade and I can now open almost any link from pocket ie directly into wmp, including web tv channels. My recommendation is to avoid that upgrade to windows mobile 2003 if you have and older pda like the x30.
